CCCADI Breaks Ground Today on New Cultural Center in East Harlem

Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute (CCCADI), the nation's foremost Afro-Caribbean cultural center, will break ground today, September 16 at 10:00 AM at the former firehouse at 120 E. 125th Street which it is renovating into a cultural center for East Harlem.

For three months this summer, works of art in all media by 106 of New York City's most talented public school students, pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, will be displayed in the Ruth and Harold D. Uris Center for Education at The Metropolitan Museum of Art through P.S. Art, a project of the New York City Department of Education and Studio in a School Association, Inc. The annual juried exhibition is now in its 12th year. P.S. Art 2014: Celebrating the Creative Spirit of NYC Kids will open for special viewing by the public at 6:30 p.m. tonight, June 10, the evening of the City's annual Museum Mile Festival, and will remain on view through August 25.

The Coming Up Taller Awards recognize and support outstanding community arts and humanities programs that celebrate the creativity of America's young people, and provide them with new learning opportunities and a chance to contribute to their communities. The awards also highlight the contributions that historians, scholars, librarians and visual and performing arts make to families and communities by mentoring children. More than 320 nominations were received by the program in 2008.
