BWW Review: GALAVANT's Renaissance Comedy Troop is Even Better in Season 2

No one is ever going to confuse ABC's medieval song and dance event GALAVANT for top-notch musical comedy, but after a promising, yet uneven, first season, this delightfully silly show has hit its stride in Season 2 capitalizing on what made it a modest, surprise success in 2015. The second season, which premieres tonight at 8:00pm ET, seems to have found a far more consistent sense of humor allowing it to fully realize the RIDICULOUSNESS that each character and actor is capable of bringing to the table. For the next five weeks, ABC will air two 30-minute episodes every Sunday, each featuring original songs by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater. While this is not exactly the typical Sunday night prestige programming, it is a delightful diversion before TV gets back to being serious for February Sweeps.

TV: Renee Zellweger and More Attend 'ONE STARRY NIGHT' Benefit for ALS Association

"One Starry Night: From Broadway to Hollywood," a one-night-only musical and entertainment extravaganza in benefit of the ALS Association Golden West Chapter, was presented Monday, April 20 at the historic Pasadena Playhouse in Pasadena, CA. Thanks to performances and appearances by an exciting gathering of Broadway and Hollywood talent, and the greater Los Angeles community at large, the evening raised nearly $200,000. BWW TV's Los Angeles Correspondent and Co-Producer Michael Sterling, along with Co-Producer/Videographer Paul Preston of Digital Mind Productions, spoke to the stars as they walked the red carpet prior to the evening's festivities.

BWW Recap: A Biblical Showdown on SUPERNATURAL

Mom's can be so embarrassing sometimes. One minute they're trying to set you up with the doctor down the street then they're wiping food off your face with their saliva-covered finger. It's even worse when they're criticizing the way you're doing your job, especially when they're an all-powerful, hundreds of years old witch with a bad case of narcissism.

BWW Interview: Vinnie Jones Promises Big Twist in GALAVANT Finale

For the past 16 years, Vinnie Jones has been Hollywood's go-to British tough guy. Starting with Guy Ritchie's LOCK, STOCK AND TWO SMOKING in 1998, Jones has been beating guys up with a British accent for years. Now, he is starring as King Richard's loyal enforcer on ABC's comedy GALAVANT; just don't tell him it's a musical comedy.

BWW Interview: GALAVANT's Mallory Jansen Chats Being an Evil Queen, Singing on Broadway, and a Potential Second Season

The biggest TV surprise of 2015 hasn't been Gina Rodriguez winning a Golden Globe for JANE THE VIRGIN or the success of EMPIRE on Fox, it has been the fact that ABC's new musical comedy extravaganza GALAVANT has been a critical and ratings hit. The show, from the minds of Dan Fogelman, Glenn Slater, and Alan Menken, tells a rather unusual fairy tale, and at the center is the unconventional evil queen Madalena.
