There's a new tonsorial parlor setting up shop at Palm Beach Dramaworks this summer, and the proprietor possesses skills that can best be described as cutthroat. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, the brilliant Tony Award-winning musical thriller by Stephen Sondheim (music and lyrics) and Hugh Wheeler (book), opens at the Don & Ann Brown Theatre on July 14, following a specially priced preview on July 13. This deliciously macabre and witty tale of a throat-slitting barber and his enterprising accomplice, Mrs. Lovett, who grinds his victims into meat pies, runs through August 6. Clive Cholerton directs and Emmanuel Schvartzman, making his PBD debut, is the musical director.

Good morning, BroadwayWorld! This weekend's big news: Josh Rhodes' GUYS AND DOLLS rolls the dice on Sunday at The Old Globe!

Say his name three times and he might just arrive on Broadway!Now according to an Equity casting notice, the show will get a developmental lab in September. The musical features music and lyrics by Eddie Perfect and a book by Anthony King & Scott Brown. Timbers remains on board for the project. Connor Gallagher will join the creative team as choreographer. 

While promoting his new film SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING, award-winning actor Micheal Keaton confirmed reports that he will lend his voice to the role of the villain in Disney's upcoming live-action DUMBO. Keaton will reunite with 'Beetlejuice director Tim Burton on the film.

Since the big screen adaptation of CHICAGO took home an Academy Award more than a decade ago, movie musicals have seen a resurgence, with varying levels of success. There have been huge hits, like last year's LA LA LAND, and big disappointments, like 2009's NINE.
