Bessie Award winner and New York Live Arts' Stryker/Ranjelovic Resident Commissioned Artist Okwui Okpokwasili presents the culmination of her two-year residency at New York Live Arts with the New York premiere of Poor People's TV Room.

Clinton Hill cultural hub and OBIE award-winner JACK launches its winter/spring 2016 season with an a cappella opera set in Zimbabwe by composer Tanyaradzwa Tawengwa, a weekend of curated works by Modesto "Flako" Jimenez, the premiere of the dirty and bracing play Tom & Eliza, by Celine Song, the English-language premiere of Argentinian playwright Rafael Spregelburd's SPAM, The Geneva Project by Jennifer Harrison Newman, Antonio Ramos' Thirsty Mind, love and starvation sitting in a lonely tree and an exploration in minimalist/pop art performance by the No Face Performance Group. JACK also engineers the return of Walter Dundervill's ARENA (which had two sold-out runs at JACK in 2014 and 2015).
Producer Eric Krebs asks, 'What happens when 2 extraordinary singer/performers from Africa come together for an exploration of music and story telling?' AFRICA MY BEAUTIFUL - an evening of story and song, with South African born Olivier and Obie Award-winner Thuli Dumakude, and Tanyaradzwa Tawenga 'a suburban kid from Zimbabwe,' - will play a limited 15-performance engagement at The Playroom Theater (151 West 46th Street - just east of Broadway). Performances are set to begin tonight, August 31st at 7pm and continue through September 30th.

In response to popular demand and critical acclaim, Soho Rep. and The Play Company, in association with John Adrian Selzer, announce a second extension of the U.S. premiere of debbie tucker green's generations to November 23. The production, which opened on October 12, was declared a New York Times Critics' Pick by Charles Isherwood who called it 'a singular theatrical experience,' noting 'that the play reverberates in your mind and heart long afterward, like the taste of a great meal that you savor for days.' In her Time Out New York Critic's Pick review, Helen Shaw called it 'a devastating aria,' while Hilton Als in The New Yorker called it 'a miniature spectacle' that 'is filled with so much warmth and thought that the feeling it imparts lasts for a long time after you've left the theatre.'

By popular demand, THOKOZA, a group of six South African and African women, all "of a certain age," will return Off-Broadway in I SING FOR FREEDOM, Sundays at5:00pm at the Jackie Onassis Theatre beginning January 26th, 2014. I SING FOR FREEDOM played an extended run at Baruch Performing Arts Center from June to December of 2013.

In the middle of the performance of THOKOZA: I Sing For Freedom on Monday night, August 19, at the Baruch Performing Arts Center, the audience recognized Harry Belafonte as the cast reprised his famous calypso songs and gave him a spontaneous show stopping standing ovation.
