While 2017 was filled with so many theatrical highs (Ben Platt, THE BAND'S VISIT, SPONGEBOB, Bette Midler, etc), it was also a time to say good bye to some of the industry's most beloved artists whose work made the theatre, and our world, a better place. Rob and Kevin sit down with Broadway Royalty, Lee Roy Reams, and reflect on the passing of such legends as Barbara Cook, Mary Tyler Moore, Gemze de Lappe, Thomas Meehan, Liz Smith, Robert Guillame, and so many others.

As we say goodbye to 2017, we remember all of those we have lost in this past year. From actors to directors and musicians, these people have shared their gifts with us and they will not be forgotten. Join BroadwayWorld in remembering some of these people below.

This holiday season for four days only, Kidz Theater will present Annie Jr.! Directed by Kidz Theater Founder and Artistic Director, Kristen Caesar, music directed by Michael Liepper, Annie Jr. features your favorite little orphan Annie and her friends and foes, with all of the songs you know and love!

It's the hard-knock life! Garden Theatre is currently showing ANNIE. The book is by Thomas Meehan; the music is by Charles Strouse; and the lyrics are by by Martin Charnin. Directed by Steve MacKinnon, with choreography by Spencer Morrow, performances run through Saturday, December 23, 2017.

You can't stop the beat in the Maltz Jupiter Theatre's big and bold Broadway blockbuster about one girl's inspiring dream to dance! Onstage January 9 through 28, the smash hit musical Hairspray kicks off the New Year at the Theatre. The musical takes place in 1962 Baltimore, where Tracy Turnblad a girl with big hair and an even bigger heart is on a mission to dance her way onto national TV. When her dream comes true on the Corny Collins Show, Tracy transforms from social outcast to teen superstar and sets out to integrate the show.

The Muny announced today the directors, choreographers and music directors for The Muny's 2018 centennial season, which opens on June 11 with the first production in the world of Jerome Robbins' Broadway since it's Tony - award winning Broadway and national tour productions.

NETworks Presentations presents the New York engagement of Elf The Musical. The show will play from tonight, December 13, through December 29 at The Theater at Madison Square Garden.

April and May are going to be bringing 'springtime for Hitler' in this new production of THE PRODUCERS. Located in St. Petersburg, Florida, American Stage plans to bring this comedic musical to American Stage in the Park. This production will be presented by Bank of America.

Ordway Center for the Performing Arts presents one of the best-loved musicals of all time, Annie, directed by the Twin Cities' own Austene Van. Full of holiday spirit and family fun, this new Ordway Original production will be on stage December 7-31.

Woodruff School ACE Music will be celebrating its 20th Anniversary with their production of 'Annie JR', the 1977 Tony Award winning musical by Charles Strouse, Thomas Meehan and Martin Charnin beginning December 7th, 2017.

Greasepaint Theatre presents the musical, ELF JR. With music by Matthew Sklar, lyrics by Chad Beguelin and book by Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin and lyrics by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross. The book is adapted by George Abbott and Richard Bissell from the 2003 film. The show runs December 8 through December 17, 2017 at Stagebrush Theatre, 7020 E. 2nd St. in Scottsdale.

A musical adaptation of the 2003 Christmas movie 'Elf' makes a lot of sense: the movie has all of the joy, sweetness, glitz, slapstick, and happily-ever-after for a crowd-pleasing production. This adaptation, now performing for a brief stint at The Paramount Theatre, stays loyal to the vast majority of the content in the movie. Many of the lines are verbatim. Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin's adaptation has tweaks here and there to leave room for elaborate musical numbers (many of which have some fun choreography), but the premise is the same: Buddy is on a quest to find his dad, reconnect with him, and, in the process, revive New York City's (and, indirectly, the world's) lost Christmas spirit.
