What did our critic think of VENUS IN FUR at The Weekend Theater?

Guildhall Art Gallery is mounting a fascinating new exhibition examining the ways in which visual artists have taken inspiration from the literary arts.  Inspired: Art inspired by theatre, literature and music will explore the relationship between poetry, plays, novels and music with the visual arts.

A través de pinturas, dibujos y grabados se busca reconstruir el pasado y convertir el arte en un documento histórico, la cual se podrá visitar a partir del 9 de mayo en el Museo Nacional de San Carlos.

The National Portrait Gallery has acquired Sir Thomas Lawrence's unfinished final portrait of Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, following a successful public fund-raising appeal, it was announced today, 6 April 2017.

A rarely seen portrait of the Duke of Wellington goes on view at the National Portrait Gallery as part of its exhibition Wellington: Triumphs, Politics and Passions, opening 12 March, it was announced today. The portrait has never been publicly displayed in the United Kingdom.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art's galleries for its world-renowned collection of European Old Master paintings from the 13th through the early 19th century will reopen on May 23 after an extensive renovation and reinstallation. This is the first major renovation of the galleries since 1951 and the first overall reinstallation of the collection since 1972. Increased in size by almost one-third, the space now accommodates the display of more than 700 paintings in 45 galleries, including one rotating special exhibition gallery. The galleries are organized both chronologically and geographically to provide an overview of painting in Italy, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Great Britain. Many of the galleries have new floors and moldings and the suites of galleries unfold with a new logic and grandeur. Sculpture, medals, ceramics, and other decorative arts have been judiciously incorporated where their presence adds a layer of meaning to the display of paintings. Key works have been conserved or embellished with period frames. Important loans complement the permanent collection and celebrate the reinstallation.
