HAMILTON National Tour Coming to Seattle During 2017-18 Season

The national tour of the Broadway musical HAMILTON will play in Seattle as part of the 2017-2018 season, it was announced today by producer Jeffrey Seller and the KeyBank Broadway at The Paramount series, presented by Seattle Theatre Group.

As previously reported by BroadwayWorld, the producers of Hamilton recently sent out a casting notice specifying they are 'looking for non-white men and women, ages 20s to 30s, for both the Broadway production and upcoming national tours. No theatre experience necessary.' Representatives for the production say the language used was approved by Actors' Equity, and the show's producers have just released the following statement on the issue.

Actors go into the business of theatre knowing that talent and the capability to play a role aren't always enough to get the job. Sometimes there are physical requirements either dictated by the author or artistically preferred by those making casting decisions. The height, weight, general appearance and, yes, the perceived ethnic background of an actor could, in many cases, be considered indispensable aspects of the hiring process.

Signature Theatre has announced casting is confirmed and tickets are now on sale for Signature Plays, which revisits the work of three Legacy playwrights with Edward Albee's The Sandbox, Maria Irene Fornes' Drowning, and Adrienne Kennedy's Funnyhouse of a Negro. Directed by Lila Neugebauer (A.R. Gurney's The Wayside Motor Inn), this trio of plays, all produced during their author's original Playwright-in-Residence season and presented together for the first time, celebrates Signature's rich and diverse history over the past quarter century.

Tony Award-nominee Rory O'Malley will reign as King George in the Broadway musical HAMILTON starting Monday, April 11 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre (226 W. 46 St). Mr. O'Malley steps into the role as Jonathan Groff (Tony Award-Nominee), who departs the musical following the 8pm performance on Saturday, April 9th to begin filming the lead role in David Fincher's new drama series for Netflix entitled 'Mindhunter.'
