Vassar & New York Stage and Film present the 28th Powerhouse Theater season workshop MURDER BALLAD, starring Tony nominees Daniel Breaker (Passing Strange; Shrek: The Musical) and Will Swenson (Hair; Priscilla Queen of the Desert) as well as Dee Roscioli (Wicked) and Rebecca Naomi Jones (American Idiot; Passing Strange). The indie rock musical Murder Ballad is written by award-winning playwright Julia Jordan (Tatjana in Color; Sarah, Plain and Tall) and Juliana Nash (frontwoman for the indie rock band Talking to Animals), directed by Trip Cullman (Lonely, I'm Not; Assistance; A Small Fire). It's just another day in the life of an understudy in Amphibian Stage Production's hilarious production of THE UNDERSTUDY.

KATIE HOLMES will star in Theresa Rebeck's new play, DEAD ACCOUNTS, a five character comedy, directed by three-time Tony Award winner Jack O'Brien. The play will open on Broadway this fall at the Music Box Theatre (239 West 45th Street) produced by Jeffrey Finn.

Soho Rep, in association with John Adrian Selzer, is pleased to announce that OBIE Award-winner Roberta Maxwell will join the cast of Chekhov's Uncle Vanya on Wednesday, July 25, replacing Rebecca Schull as Maria.

Samuel French Inc. Off-Off-Broadway Short Play Festival announces the 40 semi-finalists for its 37th annual season. Chosen from over nine hundred submissions by playwriting workshops, university theatre programs, and professional companies both in the U.S. and abroad, these 40 plays will be presented October 23rd-27th with finals on Sunday October 28th at the Beckett Theatre, Theatre Row (410 W. 42nd Street). Out of these plays, six finalists will be chosen by the Samuel French, Inc. editorial staff to receive publication and licensing contracts.

The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center has announced the development of The Way of Things by Theresa Rebeck, an adaptation of William Congreve's restoration comedy The Way Of The World, as the eighth play of the 2012 National Playwrights Conference. The Way of Things replaces Ms. Rebeck's previously announced Fool.

Philadelphia Theatre Company hosts THE GREAT AMERICAN MUSICAL Summer Film Series on four consecutive Wednesday nights beginning tonight, July 11.

Barrington Stage Company, the award-winning theatre in downtown Pittsfield, MA, under the leadership of Julianne Boyd, Artistic Director, and Tristan Wilson, Managing Director, will present the East coast premiere of The North Pool by Rajiv Joseph, a Pulitzer Prize finalist for Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo. Directed by Giovanna Sardelli, The North Pool will run July 26 through August 11 at BSC's St. Germain Stage (formerly Stage 2) with an Opening performance on Sunday, July 29 at 3pm.
