Produced and created by Bobby Cronin, INSPIRED is a benefit concert series for animal rescue organizations across the country that will play every other month, with a rotating line-up of some of today's exciting musical theatre writers in a casual and intimate setting as they sit behind the piano and, unlike traditional concerts of their material, perform songs by other writers that have inspired their work. The INSPIRED series hopes to spread the word about the 2.7 million adoptable animals that are euthanized each year in America.

The troubled economy has resulted in underperforming seasons for the past several years, creating financial obstacles too difficult to overcome. The company's financial position has forced the organization to cancel Disney's The Little Mermaid and Cats, in what was to be their 61st season. After exhausting every avenue possible to present this season, the continued effects of a slow economy and the financial results of last years' season precludes the organization from having the resources to mount the current season's productions.

With days left in the first phase of the Campaign to Save Theater of the Stars, the company announces it has secured $330,000 toward its goal of $500,000 by the end of this week. Roger Bobb, nationally acclaimed film and television producer, and President and CEO of BobbCat Films, an Atlanta-based production company has committed a substantial portion of the amount currently raised. Theater of the Stars hopes to raise the balance of the goal and mount Dreamgirls starring the incomparable Jennifer Holliday next month.

The last few years have brought difficult financial times to a number of venerable Atlanta theatres, including the 2012 closing of Marietta's Theatre in the Square, a successful half-million dollar fundraising campaign by Georgia Shakespeare in 2011, and last week, one of Atlana's oldest theatrical institutions announced a desperate plea for public support. After over six decades in Atlanta, Theater of the Stars (TOTS) now needs to raise $500,000 by the end of next week, and another half-million dollars by the end of August, to continue operations.

UPDATE: BroadwayWorld has confirmed with a Theater of the Stars resentative that despite Holliday's tweets, only the Wolf Trap production has been cancelled. The production will run as scheduled in Atlanta, August 22-25.
