The one and only Diana Ross will be making summer nights red hot as she returns to the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC) on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at 7P.

This Spring sees the return of the West End musical hit Drag Divas, direct from its previous run in 2012 at The Arts Theatre. This camp, colourful show heads its way back into the West End for a limited season. The Fulton Theatre continues its 160th Anniversary Season with the flashy, bold show business musical Dreamgirls, representing the first time the show will be produced or presented in the Lancaster region. Dreamgirls is a co-production with Maine State Music Theatre and is directed and choreographed by the Fulton's Artistic Director, Marc Robin.

Let's set the scene: It's the 1960s. Soul and R&B saturate the air-waves and major record labels like Motown, Stax and Atlantic are churning out incredible dance records, hit after hit, year after year. Aretha Franklin, Ike & Tina, Diana Ross & the Supremes, Martha and the Vandellas, The Temptations and Stevie Wonder are the kings and queens of soul who go on to be legends. Everyone wants to be part of it. No-one can refuse. It's time to get aboard the Soul Train!

Singer, writer and legendary entertainer Mary Wilson comes to the Suncoast Showroom May 11 and 12.

As an undergraduate theater major in the early 1970s, I heard music everywhere. It seemed to pour out of every office and workspace around the department. (And in the LP era, if you wanted more than the radio, this meant schlepping a twenty pound record player and a dozen or so albums from your home to the campus, sometimes requiring back-and-forth trips from the car. If you go to that much trouble, you want to keep the music playing.) In the hushed costume shop with its quietly industrious all female staff, Broadway ruled, with Stephen Sondheim's recent Company and Follies in heavy rotation. It was 'men only' in the scene shop where I listened to male balladeers like James Taylor and Gordon Lightfoot while unhappily working off assigned crew hours. Jazz classes (my favorites) in the dance department were conducted to the pre-disco sounds of Isaac Hayes and the Temptations. And late night cast parties were never complete without spins of Bette Midler's first two albums.

Tonight on American Idol the remaining 8 contestants took on the songs of Detroit artists. The mentor was the legendary Smokey Robinson.

DOMA Theatre Company opens its second "all musicals" season with a Tony, Drama Desk and Grammy Award-winning hit that sizzles with R&B soul. Marco Gomez directs a cast of 28 in Dreamgirls, with musical direction by Chris Raymond and choreography by Rae Toledo. The six-week run opens March 8 at the intimate MET Theatre in Hollywood.
