Adam Guettel, Mary Wilson and More Perform at Melbourne Cabaret Festival, Now thru July 7

A host of international and Australian music theatre stars will feature in Melbourne premieres in this year's Melbourne Cabaret Festival, today, 26 June - 7 July.

Tony Award winning Broadway composer, lyricist and performer Adam Guettel will perform the Melbourne premiere of his show Adam Guettel In Concert, at Chapel Off Chapel in Prahran on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 June at 7.30 pm and conduct a master class at Chapel Off Chapel on Sunday 30 June from 12.00 noon to 4.00 pm.

Among his many works composed for music theatre, Adam is possibly best known for his musical composition The Light in the Piazza, for which he won two Tony Awards, for Best Score and Best Orchestrations, and two Drama Desk Awards, for Best Music and Best Orchestrations. Under the musical direction of long-time collaborator, Kim Grigsby, and with the stunning Hayley Bond by his side on vocals, Adam will preview songs from some of his new shows as well as highlights from The Light in the Piazza and his musicals Myths and Hymns and Floyd Collins.

US multi-platinum album selling cabaret star and music theatre composer David Pomeranz will perform the Melbourne premiere of his show Chaplain: A Life - in Concert, at Chapel Off Chapel on Thursday 27 and Friday 28 June, and will conduct a free master class there on Monday 24th June from 6.00 to 8.00 pm on the art of song writing. His compositions have been recorded by a stellar group of International Artists including Barry Manilo and Dave Clark and his work performed by dozens of household names, including Bette Midler, Freddy Mercury, The Carpenters, Harry Belafonte, Missy Elliot, Donna Summer and Cliff Richard.

He has sold more than 40 million albums worldwide.

Australia's own Rhonda Burchmore and Trevor Ashley will appear with Gary Sweet and Rhys Bobridge in a Melbourne premiere season of Little Orphan TrAshley - an adults-only pantomime - at the Comedy Theatre as part of the Festival, running from 4 to 14 July.

Rhonda and Trevor will perform alongside Adam Guettel and David Pomeranz as stars of the glittering line-up of the Melbourne Cabaret Festival Opening Gala on Wednesday 26 June at the Palais Theatre, which headlines Mary Wilson of The Supremes, along with four other international cabaret stars, Yana Alana and more.

Another opportunity to see some of these performers will be when Radio National records a one hour special on Thursday 27 June at Chapel Off Chapel. Tickets are free to be part of this studio audience.

Other well-known music theatre performers appearing in Festival shows this year include Jersey Boys star Michael Griffiths, Melissa Langton, Sally Bourne, Rachel Dunham , Naomi Price and Robert Tripolino.
