Theater for the New City, Crystal Field, Executive Director, and The After Dinner Opera Company present two musical tales of Jewish humor and heartbreak. The evening of opera begins with a 20-minute curtain raiser, Seymour Barab's raucous, off-color opera vaudeville From Oy to Vey.

Theater For the New City has announced that it will present the world premiere of THE LONG AND THE SHORT OF IT, a new play by Walter Corwin that spotlights the wrongdoings against women since the Garden of Eden through the present day and suggests the problems a woman president could face, running tonight, November 2nd, through 13th in the Cabaret at Theater for the New City, 155 First Avenue (between 9th and 10th Streets).

Bay Area audiences are in for another just-in-time-for-Halloween treat with the Drama Desk Award-nominated LIZZIE, a killer rock musical that is taking the nation by storm. Just one week until the star-studded reading of RIGHT YOU ARE (IF YOU THINK YOU ARE) by Luigi Pirandello. Featuring Brian Murray, Laura Esterman, Lynn Cohen, Reg Rogers, Angela Pietropinto, Zoe Anastassiou, Sam Tsoutsouvas, Joel Bernstein and Kate Grimes, the reading is adapted and directed by John Martello. It will take place next Monday, October 17th at 7:30 p.m. at the Cherry Lane Theatre.

Pirandello 150 Presents: Pirandello Potpourri, an evening of short pieces by the master. Tuesday, June 28th at 6pm at The Italian Cultural Institute, 686 Park Avenue (68th/69th St.) followed by a reception. John Martello and Angela Pietropinto will appear.

Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble (CDE) concludes its 15th season dedicated to the woman's voice, and its ongoing mission of "performance with a purpose," with Shirley Lauro's A Piece of My Heart, directed by CDE fellow Victoria Alvarez-Chacon, and described by the Association of Vietnam Veterans of America as "the most enduring play on Vietnam in the nation."  A Piece of My Heart follows tells the true experiences of six women working in Vietnam during wartime. The powerful accounts of these women - five nurses and one country western singer - take place before, during and after Vietnam, and each story concludes with a personal token left at the memorial wall in Washington. 

Reverend Billy & The Stop Shopping Choir is the winner of the 2016 Edwin Booth Award. The Award ceremony will take place Monday, May 9, 2016 beginning at 6:30pm in The Martin E. Theater for the New City presents Suddenly, A Knock at the Door, a new play based on stories by award winning Israeli author and filmmaker Etgar Keret written by Robin Goldfin with live music composed by Oren Neiman and performed by Oren Neiman & Gilad Ben-Zvi. David L. Carson* directs a cast of 6, including Jeffrey Swan Jones*,Antonio Minino, Alyssa Simon*, Kenneth Talberth*, Stephen Thornton, and Elanna White. Fourteen performances will be staged from June 2-19, 2016 at Theater for the New City, 155 First Avenue (between 9th and 10th Streets) in New York City's East Village.

Six licensed productions of the musical, LIZZIE, are slated for 2016-17. LIZZIE, a rock show retelling of the infamous Lizzie Borden axe murders, became available for licensing in February.

The creators of LIZZIE, the hard rock musical that tells the story of Lizzie Borden, America's favorite double axe-murderess and Victorian hometown girl, have announced that rights are now widely available to theaters and schools to produce the show.
