Mendes to Helm RICHARD III as Bridge Project's Finale Production at BAM in 2010; Spacey Stars

Tony Award winner Kevin Spacey (A Moon for the Misbegotten, The Iceman Cometh), celebrated actor and Artistic Director of The Old Vic, will star in the title role of Richard III for the final season of The Bridge Project. Following two critically acclaimed years, The Bridge Project will again be directed by Academy Award winner Sam Mendes with whom Spacey worked on the film American Beauty, for which they both won BAFTA and Academy Awards. The Bridge Project is a unique three-year series of co-productions by BAM, The Old Vic, and Neal Street, devoted to producing large-scale, classical theater for international audiences.

Theater for the New City (Crystal Field, Co-Founder and Executive Director) and INTAR (Eduardo Machado, Artistic Director/John McCormack, Executive Director) will present Havana Journal, 2004, a new play by Eduardo Machado, directed by Stefanie Sertich, beginning performances Friday, March 26th and continuing through April 18th only, at Theater for the New City, 155 1st Avenue between 9th and 10th Streets. Opening Night is set for Saturday April 3rd.

Using Allen Ginsberg (the inspiration for the HOWL! Festival) as a point of departure, this series of programs links film and video to the various underground creative movements transpiring in the East Village in fact and in spirit: poetry, music, theater, performance, and the fine arts, as well as protests affirming sexuality, opposing gentrification, and supporting the flourishing of a subversive culture.
