(Linda Shelton, Executive Director) is thrilled to welcome Centre Chorégraphique National - Ballet de Lorraine, one of France's leading contemporary dance companies, in its Joyce debut from February 7 – 12, featuring the New York premiere of the company's latest work, Unknown Pleasures, along with other acclaimed works over two separate programs.

The Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago presents the Chicago debut of Malpaso Dance Company, Havana's contemporary dance company that combines work by top international choreographers and new voices in Cuban choreography. Performances are March 9-11 at the Dance Center, 1306 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago.
Martha Graham Dance Company Presents GrahamDeconstructed: Primitive Mysteries

The Martha Graham Dance Company will present a special GrahamDeconstructed event celebrating the 86th anniversary of Primitive Mysteries, one of Graham's most revolutionary works. This stark, ritualistic dance reflects on the purity found in the virgin myths of the Southwest. It was hailed a masterpiece at its premiere and is a prime example of Graham as a leader in the modernist movement. Primitive Mysteries premiered at the Craig Theatre in New York City on February 2, 1931.

As part of its' second annual American Dance Platform, The Joyce Theater has been showcasing eight of America's most captivating dance companies over the past week. This year's platform was curated by Alicia B. Adams, VP of International Programming and Dance at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. I again had the opportunity to attend another performance on Friday, January 6, 2017. The evening featured a double bill with dances by Lucky Plush Productions and the Dallas Black Dance Theatre.

Beginning the first week of 2017, The Joyce Theater presents its second annual American Dance Platform, a showcase of eight companies over one week. This gives audiences an opportunity to enjoy a rich sampling of dance companies from across the U.S. Each year, The Joyce selects a guest curator to pick an esteemed roster of artists for the platform. This year's curator is Alicia B. Adams, VP of International Programming and Dance at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Adams' focus for this series was to reflect what is "American" dance while highlighting the various people and cultures that imprint their unique experiences and heritages.

During its 40th anniversary season, Dallas Black Dance Theatre is among eight dance companies invited to take part in the American Dance Platform at The Joyce Theater in Chelsea.
