The New York City Dance Alliance Foundation (NYCDAF), a forward-thinking charity committed to shaping the future lives and training of young dancers, returns to The Joyce Theater, January 30, 2017 with Destiny Rising. A yearly fundraising performance benefiting NYCDAF's college scholarship program, the evening will spotlight performances by 2016's scholarship beneficiaries, a commission by NYCDA's Rachel Kreiling, and guest performances from prominent professional dance companies. Select recipients of 2017 scholarships will also be named during the program.

In addition to scholarship beneficiaries performances, the Destiny Rising evening will also include performances by: Desmond Richardson of Complexions Contemporary Ballet; Catherine Hurlin and Aran Bell of American Ballet Theatre dancing a piece choreographed by Darrell Moultrie; Parsons Dance, Rockridge Dance Theatre, led by Sarah Brinson; dancers from NYCDA college partners Pace University and Montclair State University dance departments, presenting choreography by Bob Fosse and Earl Mosley; and top fundraising studio KJ Dance, who raised over $15 thousand for NYCDAF in 2016.

"Destiny Rising showcases a snapshot of what we offer our youth," remarks Joe Lanteri, founder and Artistic Director of New York City Dance Alliance. "Our 20 scholarship recipients will dance together in a commissioned work and share the stage with professionals from the world's largest companies, bookended by a whole new crop of dancers being awarded with support for their dance year ahead. It is a look at the trajectory of the career as a dance artist."

In closing out 2016, the foundation has facilitated over $22 Million Dollars in scholarships since its inception in 2010, providing top dancers in the nation with opportunities to pursue secondary education.

All proceeds from the 7th annual benefit will go towards advocating education and offering scholarships for secondary and college training.
