BWW Review: A SIGN OF THE TIMES at Delaware Theatre Company
by Greer Firestone
- Dec 12, 2018
There has been a proliferation of jukebox musicals in the past 2 decades. MAMA MIA far and away heads the list of successes. Using the guilty-pleasure pop catalog of ABBA, playwright Catherine Johnson spun a light-as-air family comedy. Somehow this show makes the songs sound like they were written specifically for the story. It's cumulus-cloud fluffy but also downright irresistible.

BWW Review: QUARTET at Little Colonel Playhouse
by Keith Waits
- May 19, 2017
Getting older. We're all doing it, every minute of every day, whether we like it or not. Time exempts no one even as it robs us of qualities and attributes that once made us who we were, gifts us with new ones, and leaves certain things at our very crux unchanged. The Little Colonel Players' current production of Ronald Harwood's Quartet allows us a poignant glimpse into the lives of four retired opera singers as they come to terms with what they were and who they are.

BWW Opera Review: PARK AND BARK - The Next Generation, from NYU and AOP
by Richard Sasanow
- May 11, 2016
“Park and bark” is a term usually used derogatively when speaking about opera--a kind of old-style singing that involves standing still and bursting forth in song, with little or no acting skills involved. There certainly wasn't anything old-fashioned about the operas or the group of young singers who performed them at NYU's black box theatre on May 7 (except perhaps their good training) in “Park and Bark--6 Mini-Operas about Brooklyn's Fort Greene Park.”
