Ben Rimalower Brings PATTI ISSUES and BAD WITH MONEY Back to NYC

After two successful nights in 2016, Ben Rimalower will return with his acclaimed long-running solo plays, PATTI ISSUES (about his obsession with Broadway diva Patti LuPone and his relationship with his troubled gay father) and BAD WITH MONEY (about how an addiction to spending beyond his means has driven him to extreme lengths all his life).

FROM AUSTRIA TO NYC at the Viennese Café in New York Exile

An evening of musical performance will explore the history of Jewish Austrian emigres who transplanted the music of Viennese cafes to New York City. Esther Wratschko (Prins Foundation Fellow at the Center for Jewish History) will share her discoveries from the combined partner archives at the Center.

Houston Early Music Festival Announces 2017 Events

Five Houston music organizations join forces to stage an extravaganza of early music for the fifth anniversary of the Houston Early Music Festival, February 11-19, 2017 at venues across the city. Festival performances include the Houston debut of ensemble Profeti della Quinta, performing works of Salomone Rossi, an Italian Jewish composer who broke barriers of discrimination in the late Renaissance to become a renowned composer of the Mantuan court of the Gonzagas, a multi-media collaboration with Museum of Fine Arts Houston for Rameau's Les Indes galantes, motets from the Bach family as well as J.S. Bach's virtuosic cantata Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen for soprano and trumpet.

Boston Symphony Presents Rare Concert of VIVALDI, KROMMER, JOLIVET, ROTA and SCHUMANN

To ring in the New Year, Assistant Conductor Ken-David Masur and the Boston Symphony Orchestra dedicate three concerts Thursday, January 5-Saturday, January 7 to the artistry of nine BSO members performing as soloists with the orchestra. The program includes Vivaldi's Piccolo Concerto in C, RV 443, featuring Cynthia Meyers as soloist; Krommer's Concerto No. 2 for two clarinets and orchestra, Op. 91, featuring William R. Hudgins and Michael Wayne; Jolivet's Concertino for trumpet, piano, and strings, featuring BSO principal trumpet Thomas Rolfs; Rota's Trombone Concerto, featuring principal trombone Toby Oft; and Schumann's Konzertstuck (Concert Piece) for four horns and orchestra, featuring horn players James Sommerville, Michael Winter, Rachel Childers, and Jason Snider.

Disney & ABC to Donate Up to One Million Books Through First Book Campaign

Today, Disney and ABC announced it will donate up to one million books to First Book, a nonprofit that provides new books to educators and organizations serving children from low-income families, during its fifth annual Magic of Storytelling campaign from now through March 31.
