The 14th annual Philadelphia Live Arts Festival is just two weeks away. The 16-day Festival, running September 3 - 18, 2010, kicks off opening week with 8 World and U.S. premieres and 3 Philadelphia premieres, at venues throughout the city.

Acclaimed solo performer Thaddeus Phillips will premiere his new show MICROWORLD(S) at the Buntport Theatre in Denver. the show will run through November 8th. MICROWORLD(S) will power the entire set using devices called 'wezas,' portable foot pumps that can be used to generate power. Audiences are given the opportunity to help power the show by pumping the wezas several times before the show to help generate the power needed.

The 13th annual Philly Fringe, which runs in conjunction with the Philadelphia Live Arts Festival from September 4 - 19, will host 185 artists during sixteen days of performances in over 80 venues throughout Philadelphia. The 2009 Festival is the largest Philly Fringe in Festival history, topping 2008?s record breaking number of artists. Showcasing the work of Festival veterans and first-time participants, the diverse line-up includes theater, dance, comedy, performance art, music, poetry, puppetry, visual art, and work that incorporates multiple genres and disciplines, offering audiences the excitement of discovering new work from the region?s vibrant performing arts community as well as artists from around the country.

Summer Solos Series Launches 6/18 At Soho Playhouse

Producers Scott Morfee and Darren Lee Cole have announced the debut of the new Summer Solos Series, a celebration of the best in solo performance and shows by acclaimed playwrights and performers. The one-night-only performance series begins June 18, 2009, continuing through August 4, 2009 at Soho Playhouse (15 Vandam Street). A special benefit performance of Spalding Gray: Stories Left To Tell is scheduled for July 16, 2009 with proceeds going to the Spalding Gray Scholarship Fund. All performances begin at 8:00 p.m. Immediately following each performance there will be a brief reception with the artist in the Huron Club, located inside the Soho Playhouse.

Following rave reviews Too Much Memory, written by Keith Reddin and Meg Gibson, and directed by Ms. Gibson, has sold out its run through its closing on Monday, December 22, at the Fourth Street Theatre, 83 East 4th Street. The Rising Phoenix Repertory and Piece by Piece production opened Tuesday, December 9, to rave reviews as part of New York Theatre Workshop's Jonathan Larson Lab. All performances are sold out. Those wishing to be put on a waiting should arrive at the theatre 45 minutes prior to curtain.

This year's Philadelphia Live Arts Festival & Philly Fringe, running from August 29 through September 13, introduces the new Festival Bar, a stylized urban beer garden - designed and created specifically for the Festival - that will play host to thousands of festival-goers, artists and performers who will gather nightly for an after-hours chance to meet and mingle. Festival Bar visitors will be able to grab a beer or cocktail served up by Philly's favorite barman Fergus Carey, purchase food including Turkish dishes from Konak Restaurant and Bar, enjoy visual media installations designed and programmed by artist Lars Jan, dance to a line-up of some of the city's best DJs and even play arcade games like pinball and Wii Boxing.
