Woodshed Collective's THE TENANT Extends Thru 10/1
by Gabrielle Sierra - Sep 9, 2011

Woodshed Collective has announced that because of strong notices and capacity crowds its production of the world premiere of The Tenant, which is performed free of charge at West-Park Presbyterian Church on the northeast corner of 86th Street and Amsterdam Avenue, will extend through Saturday, October 1.

Review - The Tenant
by Ben Peltz - Aug 26, 2011

It's inevitable that The Woodshed Collective's The Tenant, a site-specific theatrical interpretation of Roland Topor's novella via Roman Polanski's film adaptation, will be compared with the downtown hit, Sleep No More. Both require audience members to freely walk through several floors of rooms, exploring the contents and running into actors playing out scenes. But despite its less elaborate production values, I found The Tenant to be a far superior and much more entertaining experience.

Review - The Legend of Julie Taymor, or The Musical That Killed Everybody!
by Ben Peltz - Aug 24, 2011

The obligatory Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark spoof that everyone figured would be a part of the 2011 New York International Fringe Festival obviously did not benefit from a series of workshops and readings before making its debut at the Bleecker Theatre. This one had to be a rush job.

Review - Peter and the Starcatcher: Never Again
by Ben Peltz - Mar 10, 2011

The thought crossed my mind more than once during the intermission of Rick Elice's delightfully funny romp, Peter and the Starcatcher, now playing at the New York Theatre Workshop.  Why was the versatile comic actor, Christian Borle, fresh from an acclaimed dramatic turn as Prior Walter in Signature's Angels in America, now regulated to a perfectly respectable but not exactly choice ensemble role in this prequel to J. M. Barrie's tale of Peter Pan?

Review - The Merchant of Venice: Regretfully Timely
by Ben Peltz - Mar 8, 2011

With celebrity anti-Semitism once again making headlines very shortly after The Public Theater's production of Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice ended its Broadway run, it almost seems a well-timed retaliation that Theatre for a New Audience's excellent mounting make a return visit to Gotham.
