New York Theatre Barn will release the new fully orchestrated demo recording of Small Town Story (formerly Speargrove Presents), a new musical commissioned by NYTB, in a concert sung by most of the demo cast and band at its signature new musical development platform NYTB in the D-Lounge on Monday, September 23, 2013 at 7:30 PM at the Daryl Roth Theatre in New York City. A limited number of student rush tickets will be available when the box office opens (10am Monday through Saturday) for that day's performance(s). Tickets are $27 (inclusive of a $2 facility fee) and are only available in person at the Neil Simon box office. You must present a valid student ID. Limit two tickets per person.

Top talent from Broadway will be coming to The Ridgefield Playhouse on Monday, October 7, at 7:30 p.m. in a concert reading of Ridgefielder Adam Safir's new musical Kilty's Revolt, to benefit A Better Chance (ABC) in Ridgefield. Tally Sessions, featured in the new Broadway Play Big Fish, brings his powerful high baritone to the lead role of Revolutionary War era indentured servant Kilty. Kate Fahrner, who plays Glynda inthe blockbuster Wicked, will display comic and tragic versatility as his brash and puckish lover Elizabeth.

Rodgers and Hammerstein's SOUTH PACIFIC is a lavish and impressive show filled with gorgeous melodies, many of which have become standards that you'll find yourself humming on the way home from The Muny. From an intellectual standpoint, the social issues that this Pulitzer prize winning drama tackles were groundbreaking for their time, and they still manage to make an impact today, despite how far along we may have come in our thinking. Hammerstein and original director Josh Logan crafted a solid book that pulls elements from James Michener's Tales of the South Pacific, while still following the usual musical theatre conventions of the time. In particular, there are the parallel love stories that thread throughout this World War II based tale, both building in their passion until they're undone by deep-seated racial prejudices that have to be overcome before either can move forward.
