Baryshnikov Arts Center presents Messiaen's Quartet For The End Of Time

Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) continues its Spring 2018 Music Series on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 7:30pm with a presentation of Olivier Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time conceived and directed by Sarah Rothenberg with lighting designed by Jennifer Tipton, performed in BAC's Jerome Robbins Theater. An all-star ensemble of instrumentalists - Joshua Rubin, clarinet; Geoff Nuttall, violin; Christopher Costanza, cello; and Sarah Rothenberg, piano - bring to life this timeless work, which Messiaen wrote and premiered in 1941 while in confinement at a prisoner-of-war camp in Germany during World War II.

Jody Briskey Stars As Judy Garland In GARLAND IN WORD AND SONG at The Willow Theatre

When Judy Garland stepped out onto the stage at Carnegie Hall on April 23, 1961, the raucous standing ovation that greeted her was just the start of what has been called the greatest night in showbusiness history. Award-winning actress/singer Jody Briskey will channel Garland and recreate that night's iconic performance in Garland in Word and Song at the Willow Theatre in Sugar Sand Park. The production, produced by Black Box Booking (The Jazz Singer, Danny Kaye & Sylvia), will run from January 26th through February 11th.

Florida Rep Extends HOW THE OTHER HALF LOVES

Florida Repertory Theatre extends Alan Ayckbourn's farce about matrimonial discord, How the Other Half Loves, starring Tony Award nominee and Broadway and screen veteran, Paxton Whitehead through February 3, 2018.

SUGAR IN OUR WOUNDS Receives the 2018 Laurents/Hatcher Award

The Trustees of The Laurents / Hatcher Foundation, Inc. are pleased to announce that SUGAR IN OUR WOUNDS by Donja R. Love is the recipient of the Laurents / Hatcher Foundation Award. Mr. Love will receive $50,000, and Manhattan Theatre Club, who will present the world premiere in June 2018, will receive $100,000 towards the production.

Tony, OBIE, and Drama Desk Award Winner Pam Mackinnon Named New Artistic Director At American Conservatory Theater

Following an extensive nationwide search,American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) Board of Trustees and Executive Director Peter Pastreich today named Tony, OBIE, and Drama Desk Award winner Pam MacKinnon the new artistic director of San Francisco's premier nonprofit theater organization. MacKinnon succeeds Carey Perloff who will depart from American Conservatory Theater at the end of the 2017-18 season after 25 years at the helm. MacKinnon will begin planning the 2018-19 season alongside Perloff effective immediately. In addition, she will begin partnering with the leaders of A.C.T.'s world-class actor training programs and ever-expanding community programs, ensuring A.C.T. continues its role as the Bay Area's leading theater arts educational organization.

The 92Y had a swinging start to it's Lyrics & Lyricists Series this weekend with a blockbuster show celebrating the life and music of Bobby Darin. Ted Chapin with his first undertaking as L&L producer created a fascinating and entertaining production which had many in the 92Y audience commenting 'move it to Broadway.' In fact the 5 day event had many Broadway producers in attendance as the buzz about the show travelled from 92nd street to 42 street.

BWW Interview: Paige Fraser of Visceral Dance Chicago

Paige Fraser, a beautiful and talented dancer with severe scoliosis, is currently dancing with Visceral Dance Chicago. I was fortunate to see her perform with this company on January 18, 2018, at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater at John Jay College, NYC. She appeared in each of the five pieces performed. Even knowing about her disability, it was not obvious that she is dealing with scoliosis. Her passion for dance and performance is evident.

Coachella Valley Repertory (CVRep) has a winner in ROMANCE ROMANCE, two one-act musicals by Keith Herrmann (music) and Barry Harman (book and lyrics). The superb cast makes the most of the material; it is a pleasure watching these four Equity performers own the stage.

Defunkt Theatre Presents Portland Premiere of THE PRIDE

Three actors play two sets of characters with identical names living 50 years apart. In the 1950s Oliver hires Sylvia to illustrate his newest children's book and an attraction develops between Oliver and Sylvia's deeply closeted husband Philip. In the present day, Philip and Oliver are a couple on the rocks due to Oliver's resistance to monogamy and his emotional dependence on his best friend Sylvia. Defunkt's Executive Director Sarah Armitage directs the Portland premiere this Olivier-award winning play which cuts back and forth between two eras to challenge notions of love, faithfulness, and the true nature of liberation.
