For two weeks, audiences will experience 14 performances featuring two dynamic programs, which come on the heels of a successful North American tour to over 30 cities and an array of critically acclaimed performances in Germany and France. Ailey II returns to Columbus with a timeless classic from Alvin Ailey, as well as new works by dance veterans and celebrated emerging choreographers. The evening's program (subject to change) will include Virtues (Amy Hall Garner, 2012), Doscongio (Robert Moses, 1998), Rusty (Benoit-Swan Pouffer, 2012), and Revelations (Alvin Ailey, 1960).
The Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation today announced that after an international search to identify a new Executive Director, the Board of Trustees has chosen to continue the Ailey tradition of passing on leadership from one generation of the organization to the next by naming Bennett Rink to the post. Mr. Rink, Ailey's current Senior Director of Development and External Affairs, will succeed Sharon Gersten Luckman, who hired him in 1994, and who announced at the beginning of 2012 that she would step aside as Executive Director at the beginning of 2013.
On September 15th, Ailey II will embark on a 31-city world tour with 21 domestic stops includingKansas City, MO; Fayetteville, NC; Boulder, CO and Columbus, OH. The international portion of Ailey II's tour will take them to Neuss Germany and nine French cities including Cannes, Beauvais and Toulon (full schedule on page two). New Artistic Director Troy Powell will build upon Ailey II's remarkable tradition and bring a fresh dimension to this beloved company during his inaugural season.
Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater inspired audiences in Paris this summer and will continue to do so this fall worldwide. The new season is led by artistic director Robert Battle at the New York City Center November 28th to December 30th.
Ailey II recently completed a successful four week international tour with performances in Luxemburg, Germany, Poland and Lithuania. While in Warsaw Poland, Ailey II appeared on Poland's version of "So You Think You Can Dance." Troy Powell who will become Artistic Director of Ailey II next month, taught the four finalists choreography from his 2011 work Reference Point and the finalists attended Ailey II's performance at Poland's Palace of Culture and Science.
