The Hollywood Reporter reports that Joan Rivers is among the nominees of the 16th Annual Women's Image Network Awards (WIN). The late comedian joins Scandal executive producer Shonda Rhimes, and actress Julia Roberts on the list of women being recognized for their work in film and television.

For the 2014-2015 season, area families will enjoy more performance offerings for both Studio East and StoryBook Theater as well as a new venue for StoryBook Theater productions in Shoreline. Through their extensive after school performing arts training programs Studio East will now present seven student-performed productions (up from six in the 2013-2014 season). Studio East's adult-acted professional StoryBook Theater touring productions will add the Shoreline Conference Center to their list of Puget Sound area tour stops. StoryBook Theater, now in its 17th season, introduces audience members as young as three to the joys of live theatre.

A Little Princess, recommended for children ages 6+, will be performed by a talented cast of Eastside youth actors ages 10-19. Kids as young as 3 years old will enjoy the humorous antics that StoryBook Theater's Hansel & Gretel get involved in. StoryBook Theater is performed by adult actors at a variety of Puget Sound-area theaters.

Oprah Winfrey Network announced today it has given an eight-episode series order to 'Flex & Shanice,' a weekly one-hour docu-series which follows the lives of husband and wife, actor Flex Alexander ('One on One') and 90s pop singer Shanice ('I Love Your Smile'), and their extended family, all of whom live together under one roof. The series will join the network's Saturday night programming lineup this fall.

Fabulously entertaining fans eight times a week, BULLETS OVER BROADWAY: THE MUSICAL, based on the 1994 Woody Allen film of the same name, racked up six Tony Nominations this year. The musical comedy also recently released its Original Broadway Cast Recording, featuring a score of music from the 1920s adapted by Glen Kelly, with orchestrations by Doug Besterman. If you're like me, you haven't seen the show yet, and this enthralling album will leave you longing to see the splashy spectacle, smiling, and singing along with glee.

By the Way, Meet Vera Stark opened on Saturday night June 7 at the Unicorn Theatre in Kansas City, Mo. The play written by Lynn Nottage takes place in 1930's Hollywood, where Vera Stark is a black housekeeper for a Hollywood starlet. Directed by Missy Koonce, Vera Stark lands a part in a movie starring her white boss Gloria Mitchell. What happens in the next two acts are the hilarious relationships of Stark, Mitchell, and the other characters in the cast over a 75-year journey.
