Tonight before a crowd of 1,200 theatre-makers and theatre-lovers at the historic Lincoln Theatre, theatreWashington celebrated excellence on Washington stages at the 2015 Helen Hayes Awards. The awards celebration was a night of excitement and surprise as 57 Washington theatre artists, theatres, and ensembles received honors in 47 categories for their outstanding accomplishments during the 2014 theatre season. The 2015 Helen Hayes Awards Held Tonight in D.C.

One of the country's most prestigious cultural honors, The Helen Hayes Awards recognizes and celebrates excellence in professional theatre throughout the Washington metropolitan area. theatreWashington will host The 2015 Helen Hayes Awards ceremony tonight, April 6, 2015 at the historic Lincoln Theatre.

Olney Theatre Center's 2015-16 Season to Feature CARMEN, EVITA & More

Olney Theatre Center, a mid-Atlantic destination for professional theater performance and education, proudly announces two world premieres, two legendary musicals, a classic thriller, and a rotating rep of Gilbert & Sullivan as part of its 10-play 78th season, the company's largest. Headlining the season is Carmen: An Afro-Cuban Jazz Musical, set in the waning days of Batista's regime in Cuba, written and directed by Tony® Award-nominee Moises Kaufman (The Laramie Project Cycle) with music from two-time Grammy Award-winner Arturo O'Farrill. Previously on an annual calendar, the 78thseason standardizes the schedule, running September 2015 through August 2016.

Kennedy Center to Stage MOCKINGBIRD in the Family Theater in 2015

The Kennedy Center and VSA present the world premiere production of Mockingbird from January 17 to February 1, 2015 in the Family Theater. Commissioned by the Kennedy Center and VSA, the production is based on the National Book Award-winning novel by Kathryn Erskine, adapted by Julie Jensen and features direction by Tracy Callahan. The press opening performance is Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 4 p.m. This production for young audiences and their families is recommended for ages 10 and up.

BWW Reviews: Imagination Stage Delights with its Production of THE BFG, Adapted by David Wood from Roald Dahl's Children's Novel

Imagination Stage, in Bethesda, has scored yet another home run with its production of THE BFG, adapted by David Wood, OBE, from Roald Dahl's children's novel, and directed by Kathryn Chase Bryer and Eric J. Van Wyck. Parents will find themselves laughing along with their kids at Dahl's and Wood's irreverent humor, including an extended riff on the biologically impolite results of reversing the direction of the bubbles in soda pop. The more mature members of the audience will chuckle at the modern cultural references. This production is a must-see.

Imagination Stage is the new home of Giant Country in The BFG (Big Friendly Giant), a play based on the book by Roald Dahl and adapted by David Wood. Co-directed by Imagination Stage's Associate Artistic Director Kathryn Chase Bryer and Eric J. Van Wyk of Viterbo University, The BFG integrates puppetry, rich visuals, and imaginative storytelling as Sophie and the Big Friendly Giant go on a magical journey to save the children of England. Olney to Present NNPN World Premiere of RANCHO MRAGE, 9/26-10/20

Olney Theatre Center is pleased to announce it will kick off the National New Play Network (NNPN) Rolling World Premiere of Steven Dietz's Rancho Mirage. Written by one of America's most widely-produced playwrights (Yankee Tavern, Halcyon Days,Lonely Planet), Rancho Mirage will begin its Rolling World Premiere at Olney Theatre Center September 26 - October 20, 2013.

BWW Interviews: JASON INVISIBLE at Kennedy Center - a Talk with director Rosemary Newcott

A humorous stage adaptation of an award-winning book, JASON INVISIBLE is a world premiere commission by the Kennedy Center and VSA. The story of a young teenager dealing with a mentally ill father, JASON INVISIBLE shows the power of friendship in an interactive theatrical experience directed by Rosemary Newcott of Atlanta's Alliance Theatre.

BWW Reviews: THE 39 STEPS - A Comic Take on Hitchcock Comes to Olney Theatre

A mysterious accented woman, some kooky innkeepers and an innocent man on the run are just three of the multitude of characters performed in Olney Theatre's The 39 Steps. Based on the 1935 Alfred Hitchcock thriller, The 39 Steps highlights a theme that was common in many Hitchcock films - an average man who suddenly finds himself mixed up in murder and intrigue.

FARRAGUT NORTH Extends A Second Time At the Mulitz-Gudelsky Theatre

Helen Hayes Awards© Recommended Farragut North, by Washington, D.C., native Beau Willimon, explores the hubris, loyalty, and lust for power that accompany the drive to win. According to The Washington Post, '[Director Clay] Hopper's production has verve and energy, and every actor is razor sharp.' The show will close on Sunday, June 5.
