Rehearsals have begun for the world premiere of 'Throw Me on the Burnpile and Light Me Up,' written and performed by the Oscar-nominated Lucy Alibar (Best Adapted Screenplay for 'Beasts of the Southern Wild'). 'Throw Me on the Burnpile...' begins previews September 10, opens September 16 and continues through October 2, 2016, at Center Theatre Group's Kirk Douglas Theatre.

The world premiere of 'Throw Me on the Burnpile and Light Me Up,' written and performed by the Oscar-nominated Lucy Alibar (Best Adapted Screenplay for 'Beasts of the Southern Wild'), will open this Friday, September 16 at 8 p.m. Currently in previews, 'Throw Me on the Burnpile...' will continue through October 2, 2016, at Center Theatre Group's Kirk Douglas Theatre. San Francisco Opera Presents DREAM OF THE RED CHAMBER

San Francisco Opera presents the world premiere of Chinese-American composer Bright Sheng's Dream of the Red Chamber, with a libretto by the composer and David Henry Hwang, in six performances from September 10-29, 2016. Commissioned by San Francisco Opera, the work is a co-production with the Hong Kong Arts Festival and will be performed March 17-18, 2017 at the Grand Theatre in the Hong Kong Cultural Centre as part of its 45th annual festival. Based on one of the quintessential works of world literature, Sheng and Hwang's opera explores the characters at the heart of Chinese author Cao Xueqin's 18th-century novel and communicates their story as a vivid musical and theatrical experience.

As BroadwayWorld reported earlier this week, star of stage and screen  Fyvush Finkel just passed away at 93 years of age. Fyvush Finkel began his career over 80 years ago playing the numerous Jewish theatres along Second Avenue. When he was 43 he began touring in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF playing the Innkeeper, then the Butcher and eventually Tevye.
