Acclaimed singer, songwriter and bassist Meshell Ndegeocello will co-headline Lincoln Center Out of Doors' concert in Damrosch Park on August 7, sharing a bill with Raul Midón. She replaces Rokia Traoré (previously announced) whose scheduled U.S. tour has been postponed. Ndegeocello blends jazz, funk, rock, rap and soul as she continues to develop the 'neo-soul' genre she is credited with sparking.

Sundance Institute today announced the five projects chosen for the 2009 Sundance Institute Theatre Lab to be held July 7 -22 at the Sundance Resort in Utah. Under the stewardship of Sundance Institute Theatre Program's Artistic Director Philip Himberg, the projects and participants selected for this year's residency are: Diagram of a Paper Airplane (Carlos Murillo); An Iliad (Denis O'Hare and Lisa Peterson); The Lily's Revenge (Taylor Mac); Ngwino Ubeho (Come and Be Alive) (Odile Gakire Gatire); and Palomino (David Cale).

Shakespeare on the Sound, Connecticut's premier outdoor summer theatre company presenting free Shakespeare in the park, has announced that it will release a studio recording of the brand new, specially commissioned music by 2008 Tony Award-winning singer-songwriter Stew for Artistic Director Joanna Settle's inaugural production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. The recording is expected to have 15 tracks, featuring 5 all new songs by Stew. The CD will be available for pre-sale at all performances of A Midsummer Night's Dream. PBS will air Spike Lee's film adaptation of PASSING STRANGE in 2010. The film recently had its New York premiere when it played the Tribeca Film festival. Passing Strange will air as part of PBS' 'Great Performances'.

Ms. Davis who was recently seen on Broadway in last season's award-winning musical Passing Strange will portray herself and Linda Powell, last seen on Broadway in the Tony-nominated revival On Golden Pond, will portray her aunt, professor and activist Angela Davis. 'ANGELA'S MIXTAPE' will be performed at the Ohio Theatre, 66 Wooster Street (between Spring and Broome Streets). Previews begin Monday, April 6, and the official Opening Night will be Thursday, April 9 at 7:00 p.m. Performances will run through May 2.
DSI Comedy Theater announces that it is encouraging local residents to help out the IFC Food Pantry. In this rough economy, the theater wanted to reach out to the community and created the Yes We Can Food Drive to help stock the shelves of the IFC Food Pantry. DSI Comedy Theater has become an official donation center for the pantry. Anyone who brings at least two items to the theatre during April will receive $5 admission to a performance.
