DSI Comedy Theatre Announces YES WE CAN April Food Drive

By:

DSI Comedy Theater announces that it is encouraging local residents to help out the IFC Food Pantry. In this rough economy, the theater wanted to reach out to the community and created the Yes We Can Food Drive to help stock the shelves of the IFC Food Pantry. DSI Comedy Theater has become an official donation center for the pantry. Anyone who brings at least two items to the theatre during April will receive $5 admission to a performance. More information about the Yes We Can Food Drive can be found at www.dsicomedy.com.

There are over 2100 local households who depend on the IFC Food Pantry. DSI is excited to lend a hand. “One of my comics asked me last week how the theater might help support some friends who were feeling the impact of the economy,” said Zach Ward, Owner and Executive Producer of DSI Comedy Theater. “I thought about what we could do and realized the best way to help the most people was for DSI to partner with the Inter-Faith Council and the Food Pantry, to literally stock the shelves and support the on-going efforts to serve over 2100 local households in our community."

The pantry’s immediate needs include: baking supplies (flour, sugar, cooking oil, biscuit mix and corn meal); boxed/packaged foods potatoes; canned meat (beef stew, chicken and dumpling, Spam or Treat

canned fish (tuna, salmon, mackerel); pasta (macaroni and cheese, spaghetti noodles, ramen noodles, Chef Boyardee);  pasta sauce (traditional, meat, four cheese, garlic); canned vegetables (corn, string beans, greens); canned soups (chicken, vegetable); canned beans (pork and beans, baked, black-eye peas); cereal (boxed corn flakes, cheerios, oatmeal, grits);  canned fruit (peaches, fruit cocktail); juice (apple, cranberry, grape, orange); rice; instant potatoes; and canned or powdered milk.

DSI Comedy Theater, an 84-seat non-smoking theater located in Carrboro, North Carolina, boasts a local company of 45 active performers and a national network of almost 100 professional comedians. A dedicated member of its community, the theatre continues to reach out to the greater Triangle region with fundraisers, outreach, and educational opportunities for all ages and abilities. It is the home of the DSI Comedy Training Center, which offers new classes every month in the art of improvisation, stand-up and sketch comedy. Zach Ward, Owner and Executive Producer of DSI, has trained improv talent featured on television (Jeff Richards, Saturday Night Live, MADtv), the big screen (Maddy Curley, Disney's Stick it), and students now.
