BWW Review: Skillful, Riveting A DOLL'S HOUSE PART 2 at Jungle Theater

If the idea of an update to one of the world's most groundbreaking plays makes you dubious, because you think it will be a stodgy yawner or because you believe classics should not be messed with, or if you know little about Ibsen's most famous play, and so think you'll be too clueless to get this one, be reassured: the Jungle's production of A DOLL'S HOUSE PART 2 is both accessible and riveting.

BWW Review: METAMORPHOSES at Guthrie

'Bodies' is the first word spoken in Mary Zimmerman's adaptation of Ovid's METAMORPHOSES, and it's the physicality of the story telling that makes this show such a theatrical pleasure. First developed with students at Northwestern, the production went pro and opened on Broadway in 2002 at Circle in the Square. There it created quite a splash, literally: the first two rows of audience were supplied with disposable raincoats. Yes, that's right: METAMORPHOSES is staged in and around a pool.

Minnesota Orchestra Announces Plans For Sommerfest 2019: Música Juntos (Music Together)

The Minnesota Orchestra announced plans for Sommerfest 2019 today, unveiling a four-week July festival, presented under the banner Musica Juntos (Music Together), that spotlights Latin American music and culminates in performances of Argentine composer Osvaldo Golijov's La Pasion segun San Marcos, a much-celebrated, genre-blurring retelling of the biblical passion of St. Mark, described by critics as "a work of genius" and "the first indisputably great composition of the 21st century."

BWW Review: The Moving Company is Back with an Original, Profound, Silly, Thoughtful, Delightful, Sweet, and Surprising New Work THE 4 SEASONS

The Moving Company (which grew out of the ashes of the Tony-winning Theatre de la Jeune Lune) is back this fall with a very Moving Company kind of show. Which is to say original, profound, silly, thoughtful, delightful, sweet, surprising, and a little odd. Conceived by co-Artistic Directors Steven Epp, Nathan Keepers, and Dominique Serrand, THE 4 SEASONS was inspired by the idea of the four seasons, including Vivaldi's famous composition FOUR SEASONS and Piazzolla's less famous composition FOUR SEASONS. They also drew inspiration from Chekhov, and this quote from the Russian playwright about his work could also describe MoCo's work, and this piece in particular: 'What happens onstage should be just as complicated and just as simple as things are in real life. People are sitting at a table having dinner, that's all, but at the same time their happiness is being created, or their lives are being torn apart.'
