The Civilians Receive $700,000 Grant from National Science Foundation

The Civilians, the New York-based theatre company known for projects investigating real-life topics - including the upcoming IN THE FOOTPRINT about the controversy surrounding the development of the Atlantic Yards in Brooklyn - has been awarded a three-year grant in the amount of $700,000 from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for THE GREAT IMMENSITY, a new production about climate change, it has been announced by Steve Cosson, founding Artistic Director of The Civilians.

OSF Features New Commissions From Diaz, Friedman, Galati, Hudes, Stew & Rodewald

At a press conference yesterday the Oregon Shakespeare Festival provided a comprehensive picture of the scope of new work underway over the next several season supported by grants totaling more than $800,000. OSF recently received a grant of $600,000 from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation over three years (2010-2012) for the decade-long commissioning, production, and public dialogue initiative American Revolutions: the United States History Cycle. The Edgerton Foundation of Los Angeles, California awarded OSF a four-year $200,000 grant to support the commissioning of five new American musicals, putting OSF in the unique position of creating new American musicals with a resident acting company.

A new musical by Michael Friedman and Daniel Goldstein will be read this Sunday, June 13 at 5:30pm as part of the Huntington Theatre Company's Breaking Ground reading series, held at the Huntington's Stanford Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts. The reading is free and open to the public, though reservations are recommended as seating is limited.
