Review - Glimpses Of The Moon and Two Thousand Years

You would think that Edith Wharton's fizzy little comic novel, The Glimpses Of The Moon, might have been a perfect property for Rodgers & Hart or Kern, Wodehouse & Bolton to musicalize when it was fresh off the presses in 1922. But no, it took until 2008 for New Yorkers to get a glimpse, not to mention a pleasant earful, of a brand new frothy little musical charmer based on her book, courtesy of a couple of moderns, Tajlei Levis (book and lyrics) and John Mercurio (music).

National Corporate Theatre Fund (NCTF) held its Annual Chairman's Awards Gala and benefit on Monday, April 14 at New York's Cipriani's Pegasus (30 Rockefeller Plaza). It is always a pleasure to see a well-crafted, witty musical comedy. 'Glimpses of the Moon,' an original musical based on an Edith Wharton novel and created specifically for the intimate wood-paneled Oak Room of the Algonquin Hotel, delivers in spades. Produced by Lemon Tree Productions and written by Tajlei Levis and John Mercurio, it is a sparkling valentine to the jazz age.

Lemon Tree Productions is pleased to announce the following special guest stars have confirmed to appear in Glimpses of the Moon, every Monday night at 8pm in the Oak Room of the Algonquin Hotel. January 21st will feature Liz Larsen, January 28th will feature KT Sullivan, February 25th will be Susan Lucci, March 3rd will be Joyce Dewitt and March 10th will feature Alison Fraser.

On Tuesday, January 15 Ghostlight Records officially released the cast recording of The Civilians' Gone Missing, the hit musical that recently ended its smash engagement at The Barrow Street Theatre Off-Broadway. The album features the entire original cast of Emily Ackerman, Damian Baldet, Jennifer R. Morris, Stephen Plunkett, Robbie Collier Sublett and Colleen Werthmann and is produced by Kurt Deutsch and Jan Folkson.

The Civilians, the acclaimed New York-based theater troupe, will end their smash Off Broadway debut with Gone Missing on Sunday, January 6, 2008 at the Barrow Street Theatre (27 Barrow Street). Gone Missing will not, however, go entirely missing as its cast album from Ghostlight Records has announced a release date of January 15, 2008.
