The York Theatre Company, dedicated to the development of new musicals and preserving musical gems from the past, celebrates major milestones with the announcement of its upcoming 2014-2015 season. The 45th Anniversary season will see the Off-Broadway premieres of two Main Stage productions: Texas in Paris starring Tony Award-winner Lillias White, and the highly anticipated Harold and Maude, an intimate musical. The acclaimed Musicals in Mufti series will present its 100th production, expanding to a two-week performance schedule for the musicals Big, A Time for Singing and Saturday Night; My Favorite Year will then play a one-week schedule. Special events include the 23rd Oscar Hammerstein Award Gala honoring Broadway's Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, and York's ongoing schedule of developmental readings, labs and more at The York Theatre Company's home at Saint Peter's (Citicorp Building, entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue.)
The York Theatre Company presents a special event, The Gift of Music, a father's legacy, a concert tribute to cantor and Broadway performer Larry Gilbert, written by Stephen Cole, directed by Pamela Hunt with music direction by Michael Rice. Eight veteran actors, directors, writers, choreographers and producers have created FWD Theatre Project ("Festival of Works in Development"), a grass-roots initiative for the discovery, development and delivery of original musical theater to the Chicago community. Artistic Director Amber Mak along with Collective Artistic Associates Justin Brill, Wade Elkins, Michael Gillis, Karen Multer, Steve Multer, Missy Greenburg and Scott Sowinski, have announced LaunchingFWD!, a one-night-only concert event at City Winery Chicago, 1200 W. Randolph Street, Monday, September 22 at 8 pm (doors open at 6 pmfor food and cocktails).
The York Theatre Company just presented its one-night only benefit concert, NEO 10, celebrating up and coming musical theatre writers, on Monday evening, June 2, 2014 The York Theatre Company's home at Saint Peter's (entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue). The NEO 10 concert featured songs by this year's NEO writers: Bobby Cronin, Gabriel Kahane, Shaina Taub, andSam Willmott. The evening will also include songs by guest writers (and past NEO honorees) Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. The evening, directed by Annette Jolles, with music direction by David Shenton, included previously announced performances by Starr Busby, Liz Callaway, Kate Ferber, Grace Mclean, Andy Mientus, Kristin Sieh, Phillipa Soo, and the ensemble from Marymount Manhattan College. Sultans of the Street, written by Anusree Roy and directed by Nina Lee Aquino, stars Colin Doyle, Mina James, Richard Lee, Ali Momen and Zorana Sadiq. Set & Costume Design is by Camellia Koo; Lighting Design by Michelle Ramsay; Sound Design by Michelle Bensimon; and Dramaturgy by Stephen Colella.
The York Theatre Company and its acclaimed Developmental Reading Series, will present the premiere of two new musicals: Monet, with Book by Joan Ross Sorkin and Music & Lyrics by Carmel Owen, and Goodbye Barcelona, written by Judith Johnson and K.S. Young People's Theatre will present the world premiere of acclaimed playwright Anusree Roy's latest offering, Sultans of the Street. Directed by Nina Lee Aquino, this poignant and uplifting tale will be presented on the Mainstage from April 28 to May 15, opening on May 1.
