The Ringwald to Present THE MOTHERF**KER WITH THE HAT, 3/28-4/14

Best known for his searing plays The Last Days of Judas Iscariot and Jesus Hopped the A Train, Stephen Adly Guirgis' latest play, The Motherf**ker with the Hat, finally makes its Michigan debut. Seen on Broadway in 2011 in an acclaimed production that starred Chris Rock and Bobby Canavale, The Ringwald's production will play an exclusive 3 week run at the Ferndale theatre.

Termination Productions to Present THE HEAD HUNTER at The Producers Club Theaters, 4/11-5/4

To bring a second life to an undiscovered gem, Termination Productions LLC will present 'The Head Hunter,' a dramatic encounter between a screenwriter and his mobster cousin, at The Producers Club Theaters April 11 to May 4, 2014. The play is written by Mark Borkowski, a New York-based playwright, screenwriter and actor who is now best known for playing Paul Sagorsky in the third and fourth seasons of HBO's Boardwalk Empire. Richard Hymes-Esposito (www.richardhymes.com) directs. It is the first revival of a horrific yet hilarious two-hander that Backstage (Elias Stimac) labeled 'one of the best plays of 2000' when it debuted that year.

The Hollywood Reporter writes that the New York City medical examiner's office has determined Philip Seymour Hoffman died from 'accidental acute mixed drug intoxication, including heroin, cocaine, benzodiazepines and amphetamine'.

Last night Atlantic Theater Company presented their annual Gala at The Pierre (2 East 61st Street). Directed by Neil Pepe with musical direction by Matt Gallagher, Writers' Choice saluted Atlantic's iconic playwrights with an evening of unexpected songs. For this year's Gala, Atlantic asked alumni playwrights to choose a favorite song and a favorite musician to perform it. Writers' Choice featured special tributes to Annie Baker, Martha Clarke, Stephen Adly Guirgis, David Mamet, Conor McPherson, and Doug Wright from presenters and performers Jonathan Cake, Bridget Everett, John Gallagher Jr., Rick Holmes, Brian D'Arcy James, Gary Jules, John Kelly, Zosia Mamet, Julianne Nicholson, Laura Osnes, Michael Park, Mary Beth Peil and Isiah Whitlock, Jr. among others. When Phillip Seymour Hoffman's friend, playwright David Bar Katz, saw a story by The National Enquirer claiming he and Hoffman had been 'lovers who had freebased cocaine the night before his death, and said Mr. Katz claimed to have seen him using heroin many times', he immediately filed a libel suit. After two days, The Enquirer had withdrawn the article and apologized. But Katz's settlement included much more.
