Hawaii Shakespeare Festival to Launch 21st Season With ROMEO AND JULIET & More

The Hawaii Shakespeare Festival will launch its twenty-first season, themed Civil Brawls, in a new venue-KOA Theater-with two related plays, Both Your Houses and Romeo and Juliet, sharing a cast and running in rep from August 12 to August 28.

The theatre will continue to offer a digital representation of shows for those who have been watching across the state and world, or are otherwise unable to visit the theatre in person.  They'll also continue to present closed captioned digital performances, and digital shows will still be offered on a pay-what-you-will basis.

We kick off with As You Like It opening July 17, then Love's Labour's Lost opening August 7, and conclude with Merry Wives of Windsor opening August 14. The Hawaii Shakespeare Festival (HSF) celebrates its seventeenth season with the return of all three founding members: Tony Pisculli, R. Kevin Garcia Doyle, and Harry Wong, III. The last time all three directed together was during HSF's 10th season in 2011. The season kicks off with Shakespeare's twisted, fairy-tale take on romantic comedy All's Well That Ends Well, opening July 13. Next is Shakespeare's most painful tragedy King Lear, opening July 27. The season concludes with Henrik Ibsen's dark drama Hedda Gabler, opening August 10.

The Hawaii Shakespeare Festival (HSF) returns to The ARTS at Marks Garage in the center of the vibrant downtown arts district for its twelfth season. For over a decade, the Hawaii Shakespeare Festival has been presenting three Shakespeare plays each year without repeating in its quest to produce all of Shakespeare's plays for Hawaii. At the conclusion of this season, HSF will join the ranks of the few festivals worldwide that have completed the canon. The season includes Troilus and Cressida, opening July 19; Timon of Athens, opening August 9; and As You Like It, opening August 23. Each play runs two weekends. Free companion lectures are offered for each play.
