Broadway fans had plenty of reasons to celebrate this year, with dozens of shows having opened since January, hundreds of actors having made their debuts, and many more having returned to the stage for critically acclaimed performances. Not all news was good though, as we also suffered a loss of an incredible amount of talent. Below, BroadwayWorld sends a fond farewell to those who passed away in 2014.

Elements Theatre Company of Orleans, Mass., a resident theater company whose core mission is to educate and illuminate through the arts, brings its 2015 touring program to New York City January 25 through February 11. The company will present Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice in six performances at various venues throughout the city and lead related workshops, talk-backs and panel discussions on our culture's view of "The Other."

John Strasberg, internationally known Director/Actor/Teacher comes to Lakewood Theatre Company for two one-week intensive acting workshops, Jan. 11-17 and Jan. 17-22, 2015. Students may take one or both workshops.

The ?Harold Clurman Playwrights Division, a program of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting's Lab Theater, is now accepting new play submissions. In the second annual search for ten-minute plays with social impact, the division is calling for plays that address one of three themes: global gender violence, the environmental crisis, the school to prison pipeline.

The Harold Clurman Lab Theater, the professional wing of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting New York City and the Art of Acting Studio Los Angeles, is proud to announce its cast for the upcoming production of Lee Blessing's Great Falls; Jane Levy, alumnus of the studio, and former star of 'Suburgatory' on ABC will join Ovation-nominated actor Michael Keith Allen. Great Falls will be directed by Managing Artist Director of the Art of Acting Studio, Don K. Williams, and will open on January 22nd, 2015.

A Jewish Theater Company and New York's first one dedicated to Sabbath-observant artists, will present A DYBBUK FOR TWO PEOPLE, Bruce Myers's acclaimed two person adaptation of S. Ansky's classic Jewish play THE DYBBUK directed by 24/6's Co-Founding Artistic Director, Yoni Oppenheim. The production will play on December 28th at 3:00 pm, at the JCC in Manhattan, 334 Amsterdam Avenue at 76th Street New York, NY 10023. Acclaimed Broadway, film and television star, Tovah Feldshuh - nominated six times for the Tony and Emmy Awards-brings to San Francisco for the first time, her award winning one-woman show, Tovah: Out of Her Mind! at Feinstein's at the Nikko for two performances only - this weekend, December 13 (7 p.m.) and December 14 (7 p.m.).

ALL THAT DIES AND RISES runs from December 11 - 21, 2014 in a limited engagement at The IATI Theater, located at 64 East 4th Street between 2nd Avenue & the Bowery in New York City.

According to Variety, Edgar Ramirez is in 'final negotiations' to join Jennifer Lawrence and Robert De Niro in the upcoming film JOY. Directed by David O. Russell, the biopic follows the inventor of the Miracle Mop, Joy Mangano.

Santa Monica Playhouse presents Dog Sees God Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead. This is a benefit produced by Cappricielli, Inc. and the Free Your Mind Projects. All net proceeds via ticket sales and crowd sourcing will be donated to the Trevor Project, a charity focusing on mental health, anti-bullying, and suicide prevention. Dog Sees God Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead plays from tonight, December 6th through Sunday, December 21st.

Critically acclaimed entertainers Tommy Femia and RIck Skye bring to life the 20th Century's greatest mother/daughter duo at DON'T TELL MAMA!

The Stella Adler Studio of Acting and the Rose M. Singer Center at Rikers Island will host a performance of movement, poetry and monologues by women inmates from the Rose M. Singer Center today, December 3, from 12 PM to 2 PM. Kate Mulgrew, an avid supporter and board member of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting and ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK cast member, will be on hand to discuss the outreach program.

The Harold Clurman Playwrights Division, a program of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, has announced that writer Sam Byron was selected to be Playwright-in-Residence for 2015. Previous residents include Dennis Staroselsky, Halley Feiffer, Mia Chung, Anton Dudley, Christina Gorman, Zayd Dohrn, and Peter Nickowitz. Over two hundred writers submitted applications and full-length plays for consideration in the annual merit-based search.

Theater for the New City (Crystal Field, Executive Director) will present Lesser America's World Premiere of Brian Watkins' (My Daughter Keeps Our Hammer with The Flea) family drama Wyoming, January 15-31 at Theater for the New City (155 1st Avenue between 9th and 10th Street).

The Broadway community mourns the loss of acclaimed director, producer, writer, and performer Mike Nichols, who passed away on Wednesday evening at age 83. The marquees of Broadway theatres in New York were dimmed in his memory on November 21st, at exactly 7:45pm for one minute.
