Four original productions have been announced for the 2014 New York Children's Theater Festival. Now in it's third year, the festival 'serves family audiences by supporting upcoming artists and industry professionals who are passionate about creating theatrical experiences and productions for children'. The following productions will be showcased in April of 2014:
The New York Children's Theater Festival co-founders Michael Shawn Lewis, Chelsey Shannon, and Renee Barnett have announced the shows selected for its third season. The four productions are Rescue Rue; Viva Pinocho! A Mexican Pinocchio!; Cinderella, A Fairy God Mother's Tale; and Mythos.
Chinese Mother Jewish Daughter Productions will present a developmental reading of Madame: The Musical on October 10 at Ripley-Grier Studios. The work was previously developed at the New York Musical Theater Festival's inaugural reading series in 2012.
Well-Strung will make their European debut in a show directed and co-written by Donna Drake, at Leicester Square Theatre from tonight 19 September - Saturday 21 September.
Back for its sixth summer, the Fordham Alumni Company will for the first time host a weekend of film screenings created by Fordham Alumni. The sister program to the company's FRESH ART festival the weekend before, The CANNED Art weekend showcases work Fordham Alumni have finished creating, saved for prosperity in the can. A variety of feature length and short films, documentaries, as well as web-series and sketches will be shown. All screenings will be presented at the Wild Project (195 E. 3rd St., NYC). Admission is $5 per film. In addition, audience members can purchase a $12 “RamPass” to see 3 or more films. To purchase tickets in advance visit www.thewildproject.com. Called the 'hottest thing with a bow since Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games' by the New York Daily News, Well-Strung: the Singing String Quartet will return to Provincetown's Art House theater this season. Since the group's 3-month run at the venue last summer, they've been on a roll - with two recent hit New York productions Off-Broadway and their first album released this spring. Well-Strung will debut an all-new show for the summer, running from June 30 - Sept. 1. It is directed again by Donna Drake, and will feature new arrangements of songs by Pink, Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Swift and Third Eye Blind among others as well as new material written by Jeffery Roberson (aka Varla Jean Merman). The all male string quartet Well-Strung features classical musicians who sing putting their own spin on the music of Mozart, Vivaldi, Rihanna, Adele, and more. Directed by Donna Drake and starring Edmund Bagnell; first violin, Christopher Marchant: second violin, Daniel Shevlin; cello and Trevor Wadleigh; viola, the show debuts at Joe's Pub tonight, May 1st at 7:30PM. Well-Strung was workshopped this past winter at Ars Nova and the group will be playing The Art House in Provincetown this July and August.
