Lincoln Center Festival and Park Avenue Armory to Present Weinberg's THE PASSENGER, July 2014

Nigel Redden, director of the Lincoln Center Festival, and Rebecca Robertson, President and Executive Producer, Park Avenue Armory, today announced that the two organizations will co-present The Passenger, Mieczyslaw Weinberg's uncompromising 1968 opera about the Holocaust, performed by Houston Grand Opera and directed by David Pountney, in its New York premiere performances July 10, 12 and 13 at Lincoln Center Festival 2014. Pountney's production will have its U.S. premiere on January 18, 2014 at Houston Grand Opera.

Ken Rus Schmoll to Direct Page 73's GROUNDED Off-Broadway, Begin. 1/8

Page 73 Productions, now in its 16th year premiering the next generation of American playwrights - who have included Pulitzer Prize winner Quiara Alegria Hudes, Drama Desk Award winner Sam Hunter, New York Times Outstanding Playwright Award recipient Dan LeFranc, and more - will present the New York premiere of George Brant's gripping new play GROUNDED, directed by two-time Obie Award-winning director Ken Rus Schmoll (TELEPHONE, A MAP OF VIRTUE) and starring Hannah Cabell (3C, A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS opposite Frank Langella) with preview performances beginning Off-Broadway on January 8 prior to an official press opening of January 16 at Walkerspace (46 Walker Street) in Manhattan. GROUNDED has a runtime of 70 minutes, with no intermission.

Atlanta Symphony Welcomes Three New Musicians

Music Director Robert Spano and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra have announced the appointment of three new full-time musicians. Christopher Todd Skitch, Second Flute, and Stuart Stephenson, Principal Trumpet, joined the Orchestra at the beginning of the 2013-14 season. Violinist Anastasia Agapova will join the Orchestra in November 2013.

Deer Valley Music Fest Concludes with Free Utah Opera & Utah Symphony Concerts This Month

The final week of the tenth anniversary Deer Valley Music Festival includes three performances with the Utah Symphony in Park City, Utah. The Utah Symphony performs Beethoven's Symphony No. 1 tonight, August 7. Then, on August 9 opera stars and the Utah Opera chorus serenade audiences under the night sky. The Festival ends with its seventeenth concert of the summer: a rock 'n' roll tribute to the Music of the Rolling Stones with the Utah Symphony on August 10.

Sundance Institute Kicks Off LUMA Theatre Directors Retreat in Arles Today

Sundance Institute and the LUMA Foundation previously announced that the two organizations would collaborate to host The Sundance Institute | LUMA Foundation Theatre Directors Retreat at Domaine de l'Armelliere, today, July 29 - August 9, in Arles, France. Under the supervision of Philip Himberg, Artistic Director of The Sundance Institute Theatre Program, Producing Director Christopher Hibma and Program Associate Anne Kauffman, the Retreat will be the first theatre director-centered residency at the Institute.

MONKEY: JOURNEY TO THE WEST Begins Final Two Weeks at Lincoln Center Festival; Ends 7/28

MONKEY: JOURNEY TO THE WEST, an extraordinary music-theater collaboration based on the classic Chinese folktale 'Journey to the West' from 1592, begins its final two weeks of performances as part of the 2013 Lincoln Center Festival tonight at the David H. Koch Theater. MONKEY: JOURNEY TO THE WEST is conceived and directed by internationally renowned opera and film director Chen Shi-Zheng, with music by Damon Albarn, lead singer of Blur, and design and animation by award-winning artist Jamie Hewlett, who, with Albarn, created the virtual band Gorillaz. The limited engagement began performances on Sunday, July 6 and will play its final performance Sunday, July 28.

MONKEY: JOURNEY TO THE WEST Kicks Off Lincoln Center Festival Today

Lincoln Center Festival, which runs from today, July 6 through 28, 2013 will unfold in six venues on and off the Lincoln Center campus. Music figures prominently in the 2013 Festival with international productions by an eclectic range of renowned composers, singers, musicians and directors. Bristol Old Vic and Handspring Puppet Co's A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM to Make American Premiere at Spoleto Festival USA, Today

Co-commissioned by Spoleto Festival USA, Bristol Old Vic's new production of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream will have its American premiere performance today, May 25 at 8pm at the Dock Street Theatre in Charleston, South Carolina. The production, which is directed by Tom Morris in association with South Africa's Handspring Puppet Company is the first collaboration between the two companies since their award-winning production of War Horse. Midsummer will run for 19 performances throughout the 17-day Festival and a full list of performances during the 2013 Spoleto Festival USA is listed below.

Festival General Director Nigel Redden presents the 2013 artistic lineup for Spoleto Festival USA, which showcases nationally and internationally acclaimed artists in a celebration of opera, theater, dance, physical theater, music, and visual arts. The 37th annual Festival, to be held in historic Charleston, South Carolina, from today, May 24 through June 9, will feature one of Spoleto's largest lineups in recent history, with expanded dance and theater offerings and two original opera productions, as well as a wide range of classical and contemporary music.

Spoleto Festival USA Announces 2013 Theater Program

Internationally recognized for its adventurous programming, Spoleto Festival USA offers a robust lineup of theater for its 37th season. In addition to the American premieres of Bristol Old Vic/Handspring Puppet Company's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream and Steven Berkoff's modern adaptation of Oedipus, the theater program also includes the French circus company, Compagnie XY, with their physical theater production Le Grand C. Two one-man shows bookend the 17-day Festival: Mayday Mayday featuring Tristan Sturrock, last seen in the 2006 Festival presentation of Kneehigh Theatre's Tristan & Yseult, and Rob Drummond's interactive magic show Bullet Catch. Rounding out the theater program is the live-action graphic novel The Intergalactic Nemesis, complete with original illustrations, a Foley artist, and three actors performing a full cast of characters.

Internationally recognized for its adventurous opera and classical music programming, Spoleto Festival USA offers an eclectic program of music and opera for its 37th season. In addition to the American premiere of Matsukaze-the first of Japanese composer Toshio Hosokawa's operas to be produced in the United States-the program includes American premiere performances of P?teris Vasks' Credo and Pierre Boulez's arrangement of Ravel's Frontispice. Also to be performed are a double-bill of rarely performed Italian operas, Puccini's Le Villi and Giordano's Mese Mariano, and Verdi's Messa da Requiem conducted by Joseph Flummerfelt in his farewell appearance as Spoleto's Artistic Director for Choral Activities.
