Aquila Theatre Stages Reading of A FEMALE PHILOCTETES, Now thru 4/19

The Aquila Theatre Company is proud to announce the launch of it's new You|Stories program with a staged reading of 'A Female Philoctetes' (based on Sophocles' classic 'Philoctetes',) running at BAM Fisher's Hillman Studio from today, April 16 to April 19, with performances at 7 pm. You|Stories in an innovative national program, funded in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities, that uses arts and humanities to explore the ancient and modern narratives of war.

Richard Armitage, Anna Madeley and More Lead THE CRUCIBLE at the Old Vic - Full Cast Announced!

Initial casting for Arthur Miller's The Crucible is announced. Richard Armitage, Anna Madeley and Samantha Colley are to play John Proctor, Elizabeth Proctor and Abigail Williams in Ya?l Farber's new production at The Old Vic, with previews from Tuesday 24 June. The cast also includes Sarah Niles, Rebecca Saire and Zara White, with further cast to be announced.

Peter Sellars Returns to the Canadian Opera Company with a New Production of HERCULES, Now thru 4/30

Internationally renowned director Peter Sellars returns to the Canadian Opera Company this spring with a new company production of Handel's Hercules that propels the Greek myth into the modern day, giving voice to the untold horrors of war and the unspoken complications faced by veterans returning home. The COC premiere of Hercules reunites Sellars with celebrated conductorHarry Bicket and the all-star cast that presented this co-production with Lyric Opera of Chicago to unequivocal praise at its debut in Chicago in 2011. Hercules is sung in English with English SURTITLES and runs for seven performances at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts today, April 5, 11, 15, 19, 24, 27, 30, 2014.

ALL OUR TRAGIC World Premiere and More Set for The Hypocrites' 2014-15 Season

The Hypocrites are pleased to announce their 2014-15 Season, beginning in August 2014 with the world premiere of ALL OUR TRAGIC, an unparalleled twelve-hour theatrical adaptation that combines all 32 surviving Greek tragedies into a single epic narrative, adapted and directed by Founding Artistic Director Sean Graney*. Audiences may experience ALL OUR TRAGIC at a single twelve-hour marathon performance (with ample breaks for food and beverage) or through shorter installments spread over multiple weekends.

OSF to Present Reading of AJAX, 4/3

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) will present a play reading of Ajax by Sophocles on Thursday, April 3 at 1:30 p.m. in the Thomas Theatre. The reading is directed by 2014 Phil Killian Directing Fellow Tom Ridgely.

L.A. Theatre Works Audio Collection to Join Bloomsbury Publishing's Drama Online

Bloomsbury Publishing, the UK's leading publisher of dramatic texts, is thrilled to announce that L.A. Theatre Works will be joining Drama Online with a new audio collection launching in January, 2015. The addition of 400+ audio files of recorded plays will add another dimension to the 1000+ play texts on the platform, allowing students to engage with the plays as performed as well as read.

Old Vic Announces 2014-15 Season; Kevin Spacey to Return to the Stage in CLARENCE DARROW

The Old Vic today announced its programme for Summer/Autumn 2014. The CQS Space, The Old Vic in the round, will be home to the whole season of productions, continuing after Other Desert Cities which opens this month. The plays will be performed in the round, a transformation of The Old Vic's auditorium first seen for the award-winning 2008 production of The Norman Conquests. The season of productions is supported for the fourth consecutive year by Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

Mercury Theater Chicago & The Hypocrites Will Celebrate Sondheim's Birthday with Weeklong Celebration, 3/16-22

Mercury Theater Chicago, 3745 N Southport Ave., will celebrate Stephen Sondheim's birthday at The Hypocrites' production INTO THE WOODS with a weeklong celebration beginning on Sunday, March 16 with a panel discussion following the 3 p.m. performance with Andra Velis Simon from Columbia College Chicago and Director Geoff Button, and a second panel discussion on Saturday, March 22 following the 2 p.m. performance with Kris Vire, Associate Editor at Time Out Chicago and Executive Director L. Walter Stearns. The matinee performance on March 22, Stephen Sondheim's actual birthday, will also feature a classic Sondheim sing-a-long immediately following the panel discussion with selections from Merrily We Roll Along, Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park with George and Roadshow. A delicious birthday cake from gourmet Southport bakery Sensational Bites A Dessert Cafe will be served following the sing-a-long on March 22. Directed by Geoff Button* with Musical Direction by Matt Deitchman, INTO THE WOODS has been extended through Saturday, April 5.

Luba Mason & Karen Kohler to Lead Robert Sickinger's NICHOLAS NICKLEBY at TNC, 4/17-5/5

Theater for the New City, Crystal Field, Executive Director presents Nicholas Nickleby, A New Musical based on the classic Charles Dickens novel with book by Robert Sickinger, music and lyrics by Alaric Jans. UW World Series to Feature Works from Israel, Mali, Ukraine & More in 2014-15 Season

The UW World Series brings Seattle audiences some of the most exciting artists and companies from around the globe. NATIVE SON and THE GOOD BOOK to Make World Premieres in Court Theatre's 60th Season

Court Theatre announces its 60th season under the continuing leadership of Artistic Director Charles Newell, Executive Director Stephen J. Albert, and Board Chair Marilyn Fatt Vitale. The company's ambitious 2014/15 season will feature the World Premiere of Native Son adapted from Richard Wright's classic novel by Nambi E. Kelley and co-produced with American Blues Theater; Euripides' Iphigenia in Aulis translated by Nicholas Rudall and directed by Artistic Director Charles Newell; Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot, directed by Resident Artist Ron OJ Parson; and the World Premiere of Lisa Peterson and Denis O'Hare's The Good Book, directed by Lisa Peterson. Closing out the anniversary season is Marsha Norman and Lucy Simon's The Secret Garden, based on the beloved novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett and directed by Artistic Director Charles Newell with music direction by Doug Peck.

Soho Rep. Announces Cast for Branden Jacobs-Jenkins's AN OCTOROON, Running 4/23-5/18

Soho Rep. announces casting and performance dates for the world premiere of Branden Jacobs-Jenkins's An Octoroon, directed by Soho Rep. Artistic Director Sarah Benson. The production, April 23-May 18, concludes a banner New York season for the celebrated playwright, whose Appropriate makes its New York premiere February 25-April 6 at Signature Theatre.
