The Hangar Theatre Company continues their KIDDSTUFF season with Jack and The Beanstalk by Marjorie Sokoloff, with performances Thursday July 11 through Saturday July 13 at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.
The Hangar Theatre Company presents its lively summer theatre series for young audiences, KIDDSTUFF, from June 20 to August 3. All KIDDSTUFF shows take place Thursday-Saturday with performances at 10 AM and 12PM.
The Houston Equity Festival is a collection of local professional actors, all members of the union Actors' Equity Association, each of whom is mounting her/his own show during the summer and fall of 2019. Actor Dain Geist spearheaded the creation of the Festival "While we may be individual artists," says Geist, "Together we help to build a community."
The 2019 Drama League Directing fellows will be publicly introduced to the professional theatre community during the 84th Annual Drama League Awards, which will be held on Friday, May 17, 2019 at the Marriott Marquis Times Square. The Chair of the Awards, Bonnie Comley and her husband, Stewart F. Lane hosted the fellows at a dinner at the Bond45 for a pre-theater meal and conversation about commercial producing and their company, BroadwayHD. Also, at the dinner to share his expertise was the Drama League's Executive Artistic Director, Gabriel Stelian-Shanks.
THE EFFECT sets a high bar for the rest of The Houston Equity Festival. It's a testament to what impact a small intimate theater space can do with outstanding actors and a daring piece of written work.
The Drama League has announced the twelve stage directors who have been selected as the 2019 Directing Fellows of The Drama League Directors Project: NJ Agwuna, Sharifa Elkady, Raz Golden, Chika Ike, Rebecca Marzalek-Kelly, Ismael Lara, Jr., Amanda McRaven, Lindsey Hope Pearlman, Ben Randle, Tai Thompson, Gabriel Torres, and Sophia Watt. They will be publicly introduced to the professional theatre community during the 85th Annual Drama League Awards, which will be held on Friday, May 17, 2019 at the Marriott Marquis Times Square (1535 Broadway). Along with the rest of the world, playwright Martin Zimmerman watched the aftermath of Sandy Hook in horror, unable to fathom how "something as horrific as that wasn't going to move our national government to take meaningful action on gun control."
WITHIN THESE WALLS is a collection of new works commissioned by The Landing Theatre Company for a site-specific micro theatre project set in a specific house in the Heights. These performances are presented for audiences of only 18 people at a time in a working AirBnB. WITHIN THESE WALLS is an intimate, up-close, immersive theatre experience where the audience sits in the house that the stories happen in, and watches the drama unfold around them. There will be performances 7 days a week (except for Halloween night) in rotation throughout the run.
