Second Stage Theatre will begin the 2016 Uptown Series with the world premiere of Sofia Alvarez's FRIEND ART, directed by Portia Krieger. FRIEND ART will feature ZOE CHAO, AARON COSTA GANIS, ANABELLE LEMIEUX and Tony Award nominee CONSTANTINE MAROULIS (Rock of Ages, 'American Idol'). FRIEND ART will officially open on Thursday, May 26th.

James Houghton, Richard Rodgers Director ofJuilliard's Drama Division, announced today that Pulitzer Prize winner David Lindsay-Abaire will join Marsha Normanas new co-director of Juilliard's Lila Acheson Wallace American Playwrights Program, beginning in the fall 2016 semester. Mr. Lindsay-Abaire, an alumnus of the program, will succeed Christopher Durang, who has served as co-director of the program with Ms. Norman since 1994.

Children's Playhouse of Maryland, Inc. opens its spring season with the musical "James and the Giant Peach, Jr." Performances will be given on weekends March 5 through March 20 in the Lecture Hall of the Administration Building at CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Blvd.  The ensemble cast includes 25 student actors from Baltimore City, Anne Arundel, Baltimore and Howard counties.  Tickets are $10 each with special group rates available. Trouble Jones Productions has announced the World Premiere of RED FLAG, written and performed by Melanie Maras and directed by Kate Sullivan. The event kicks off The 24 Hour Plays 20th Anniversary Season.

Rattlestick Playwrights Theater announces the 2014 F*ck!ng Good Plays (festival, V): six (6) days of new play readings by six of today's hottest playwrights. The festival, to be presented at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, 224 Waverly Place, west of Seventh Avenue South between West 11th and Perry Streets, will begin on Tuesday, October 7th and continue through Sunday, October 12. Ars Nova is now accepting applications for Play Group, a vibrant and eclectic group of emerging writers who gather twice a month at Ars Nova to share new work and get peer feedback. The group offers members the chance to develop their plays with peer support; to be inspired by each other's work; to form collaborative relationships; and to build a strong sense of community within Ars Nova. All emerging playwrights are eligible for membership. If selected, new members will be invited to join for a period of two years beginning in January of 2015.
