Festival d'Aix-en-Provence Announces 2014 Season Highlights, July 2-23, 2014

The 66th season of the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, under the leadership of General Manager Bernard Foccroulle, will present the world premiere productions of operas by Handel and Rossini, a multi-media version of Schubert's Winterreise with video by the award-winning South African artist William Kentridge, as well as Trauernacht, a unique staging of Bach's sacred cantatas by British director Katie Mitchell. Also on the roster is a new Festival production of Die Zauberflote, directed by Complicite's Artistic Director Simon McBurney. In celebration of the 250th anniversary of Rameau's death, a concert version of the composer's Les Boreades, featuring young singers selected by the Academie Europeenne de Musique, will round out the Festival's major vocal presentations.

Chicago Shakespeare Theater kicks off this season'sWorld's Stage Series with Blind Summit's The Table, a production from the United Kingdom, which launches its first United States tour Upstairs at Chicago Shakespeare for a limited two-week engagement, October 16 to 27, 2013. This imaginative performance introduces audiences to Moses, a cantankerous puppet with a cardboard head immersed in an existential crisis on a table. Known for reinventing puppetry for contemporary adult audiences by drawing from the traditional Japanese Bunraku style, Blind Summit Theatre presents The Table showcasing its radically modern style of puppetry and storytelling. The Table will be performed in the theater Upstairs at Chicago Shakespeare October 16 - 27, 2013.

The Bard SummerScape festival in New York's Annandale-on-Hudson presents the world premiere of an original stage adaptation of The Master and Margarita (1937) by Mikhail Bulgakov. The Master and Margarita is widely recognized as one of the greatest and most beloved Russian novels of the 20th century. SummerScape's theatrical adaptation comes courtesy of visionary Hungarian director Janos Szasz in collaboration with Gideon Lester, Director of Bard's Theater Programs. It is also Szasz, whose previous stage adaptations of Bulgakov's underground classic have already 'made it big' (Moscow Times) at both the Hungarian National and Moscow Art Theatres, who directs Bard's new production: an exploration of miracles, madness, and the magic of theater itself. The Master and Margarita will be presented in ten performances between today, July 11 and 21 in Theater Two of the Frank Gehry-designed Fisher Center, which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year, on Bard's glorious Hudson Valley campus.
Marcia Gay Harden, Eileen Atkins & More Sign on for Upcoming Woody Allen Comedy

According to Variety, Broadway veterans Eileen Atkins, Marcia Gay Harden, Hamisch Linklater and Simon McBurney have all joined the cast of Woody Allen's new, untitled comedy. Also starring are previously announced Colin Firth, Jeremy Shamos, and Emma Stone. The Gravier Productions film is produced by Allen's longtime associates, Letty Aronson and Stephen Tenenbaum.

Lincoln Center Festival 2013 Lineup Announced

Nigel Redden, Director of Lincoln Center Festival, today announced the 2013 Festival's line-up, which runs from July 6 through 28, 2013. Single tickets go on sale on April 8 for the Festival, which will unfold in six venues on and off the Lincoln Center campus. There will be a total of 62 performances by artists and ensembles from ten countries.

The National Theatre's production of The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time leads the list with eight nominations, followed by the toe-tapping new musical Top Hat receiving seven, and the West End transfer of Chichester Festival Theatre's revival of Sweeney Todd in close competition with six. Other stand-out nominations include The Audience and Kiss Me, Kate receiving five each, and Constellations, The Bodyguard and Twelfth Night with four.
