On May 13, Signature Sounds will release Blood Test, the latest LP from acclaimed singer-songwriter Kris Delmhorst. The release marks Delmhorst's first album of original material since 2008's Shotgun Singer, which Performing Songwriter described as 'a tour de force of singing, writing and production that gains in richness with each repetition,' and the Boston Herald called 'a work of lo-fi beauty, and evidence of an artist taking flight.' In between, the versatile performer recorded and released Cars, a covers album of songs by the seminal new wave/proto-punk band of the same name, which PopMatters called a 'victory' and noted, 'Cars has the potential to bring a brilliant young songwriter to a wider audience.'

'The season includes two exciting world premieres, after all the terrible things I do and Five Presidents. We will also continue the tradition that I started upon my arrival by including a musical on our main stage - the first production in the Quadracci Powerhouse will be the award-winning musical, The Color Purple. Audiences responded so enthusiastically to last year's production of Ragtime, I believe they are in for another treat with The Color Purple.'

Cypress Quartet to Perform NY Premiere of Tsontakis' STRING QUARTET No. 6 at SubCulture, 4/1

The Cypress String Quartet will give the New York premiere of Grawemeyer Award-winning composer George Tsontakis' String Quartet No. 6 on Tuesday, April 1 at 7:30pm as part of the new series "92Y Concerts at SubCulture," a co-presentation of 92Y and newly opened club SubCulture (downstairs at 45 Bleecker Street). The concert, which is the group's 92Y debut and their only NYC appearance of the season, also includes selections from Dvorak's set of twelve love songs for string quartet, Cypresses, from which the Quartet takes its name, as well as Schubert's seminal String Quartet No. 15 in G Major. The Cypress Quartet's recording of Dvorak's Cypresses was released as part of the quartet's debut album on AVIE in February 2013 (review copies available on request).
