In four stellar concerts featuring some of the brightest luminaries in jazz today, 2019's Highlights In Jazz series brings together a multitude of beloved jazz musicians spanning an eclectic mix of generations and styles. You'll hear unforgettable performances from jazz veterans including Warren Vaché, Houston Person, and Norman Simmons; up-and-comers like Veronica Swift, Christian Sands, and Peter and Will Anderson; and straight-ahead stalwarts such as Steve Turre, George Cables, Buster Williams, along with many more. These gifted players and others will pay tribute to a pantheon of jazz legends, including this year's featured honoree, trumpeter Randy Brecker; plus, the music of Randy Weston, Erroll Garner, Sidney Bechet, Louis Armstrong will also be featured.

On Stage At Kingsborough, a leading performing arts presenter located on the campus of Brooklyn's Kingsborough Community College presents its 2018 HOT SUMMER NIGHTS! FREE Outdoor Concert series, featuring concerts under the stars every Saturday at 8:00 p.m.beginning July 7th and ending July 28th. HOT SUMMER NIGHTS! will feature a wide range of outstanding jazz musicians with unforgettable al fresco concerts under the stars. The series is proudly sponsored by Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Particularly in light of the 2016 documentary I Am Not Your Negro, author and civil rights activist James Baldwin is garnering new attention and appreciation for his astute analyses of race, class, and sexuality in U.S. culture. Our reading group will take up his groundbreaking semi-autobiographical first novel, Go Tell It on the Mountain (1953). Attendees are invited to read this seminal text that brought mid-20th Century African-American literature out of the shadow of Richard Wright while deftly exploring the post-Civil War Great Migration, its southern roots, its religious inflections, and its generational tensions. The suggested edition is the most recent paperback (ISBN 978-0345806543). Traditional New Orleans fare of coffee and beignets at Muriel's Jackson Square with lively discussion to follow led by Festival favorite and Southern literary scholar Gary Richards. Seating is limited to 50 persons; pre-registration is required.

The Highlights In Jazz 46th Season continues Thursday, March 22, 2018, at 8 P.M., when The Millennials Meet The Masters.

Dan Levinson and his all-star band celebrate the music of those early days of jazz at the Bickford Theatre for one night only on Monday, February 26th at 7:30 pm.  Entitled Dan Levinson's Jazz 101: The Trailblazers of America's Original Art Form, the concert features the music of King Oliver, Louis Armstrong, the Original Dixieland Jazz Band, Jelly Roll Morton, The New Orleans Rhythm Kings, Clarence Williams, Eddie Condon, Duke Ellington and more.

The Globe wants to make theatre matter to more people! The Old Globe's Arts Engagement department invites friends, flappers, jitterbugs, and all of San Diego to our latest free AXIS event, Swing Out at the Globe, on Saturday, July 22 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., on the Globe's Copley Plaza, part of the Conrad Prebys Theatre Center in Balboa Park, preceding the 2:00 p.m. matinee of Guys and Dolls.

Live @ Peck Pavilion and Peck Flicks returns to the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts grounds this summer. The season will run from July 6 through August 26 and each day of the series will have a different program focus. This year, Optimist Theatre: Shakespeare in the Park will join the line up on July 6-9, July 13-16 and July 20-22 at 8 pm with a performance on July 18 at 12 pm and they will present Much Ado About Nothing.  All the events in Peck Pavilion will all be free and open to the public.

Jazz musicians, students and enthusiasts are invited to hang out at The Nash this summer, jam with other students, learn new techniques, or try out different styles of jazz. From bop to brass, guitar to vocals, the popular jazz club will be buzzing as musicians work with instructors in a wide range of classes and workshops.  The first session begins May 22, with a variety of workshops held throughout the summer.

Bryan Cumming, a jazz-Americana artist who has recorded with popular acts such as Al Jarreau and The Pointer Sisters, has released a new CD that pays tribute to the classic songs and legendary jazz artists of the Silent Generation.

Rubicon Theatre Company celebrates Black History Month with THE DEVIL'S MUSIC: THE LIFE AND BLUES OF BESSIE SMITH, starring singer and actress Miche Braden of the original Off-Broadway production (named one of the 10 Best Off-Broadway productions of the year by the N.Y. Daily Times). Described by CBC as a, "bawdy, bluesy, boozy rollicking night out at the theatre," the show follows the life, loves and career of blues and jazz singer Bessie Smith, called the "Empress of the Blues." 

City Winery Chicago, 1200 W. Randolph Street, announces Israeli multi-reed bandleader Anat Conat and her critically acclaimed international Trio Brasileiro, English musician John Waite (1984's 'Missing You'), recent Grammy nominee and Chicagoan Robbie Fulks and more.

Throughout 2017, Joe's Pub at The Public will present artists Michael Mwenso and Shaina Taub in respective yearlong residencies, both occurring on a monthly basis.

The New York Hot Jazz Camp returns for its second year May 15th-21st, 2017 (18+). Building on last year's success they have an announced an addition of a youth camp April 10th-14th, 2017 (13-17 yrs) during NYC public schools' spring break.
