"This season is going to be an adventure set to music," says Vicki Richards, Executive Artistic Director of Paradise Theatre, Gig Harbor's only live theater and performing arts education center, "as we launch an entire season of musicals along with our capital campaign, 'Act Local'.  

Between Us Productions will present the World Premiere of Sander Gusinow's The Fairer Sex, directed by Samantha Lee Manas. It begins performances on July 27th and will celebrate its opening night on July 28 and run through August 2nd at Theatre Row Studio Theatre. Tickets are $18 and available at www.Telecharge.com. The 25th annual Kleban Prize for the most promising musical theatre lyricist has been awarded to Sam Willmott and the 25th annual Kleban Prize for the most promising musical theatre librettist has been awarded to Sam Carner. The 2015 prizes were presented yesterday, June 22, 2015, in a private ceremony hosted by ASCAP and BMI at ASCAP. BroadwayWorld was there for the presentation and you can check out photos below!

The York Theatre Company, dedicated to the development of new musicals and preserving musical gems from the past, in association with Arnold Mittelman and The National Jewish Theater Foundation, will present the world premiere of Rothschild & Sons, with music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and book bySherman Yellen. Jeffrey B. Moss is set to direct. Broadway veteran Robert Cuccioli will star as Mayer Rothschild. Additional casting will be announced shortly.

The York Theatre Company presents a one-night only benefit concert celebrating up and coming musical theatre writers, with  NEO 11 on Monday, June 15, 2015 The York Theatre Company at Saint Peter's (entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue).  Festivities begin at 7:30 p.m. followed by a champagne and dessert reception to toast the evening.

Today in 1993, the first Broadway revival of She Loves Me opened at Criterion Center Stage Right, where it ran for 354 performances. She Loves Me is a 1963 musical with a book by Joe Masteroff, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and music by Jerry Bock. The plot revolves around Budapest shop employees Georg Nowack and Amalia Balash who, despite being consistently at odds with each other at work, are unaware that each is the other's secret pen pal met through lonely-hearts ads. The Revival cast featured Boyd Gaines as Georg, Judy Kuhn as Amalia, Sally Mayes as Ilona, Howard McGillin as Kodaly, Lee Wilkof as Ladislav, Brad Kane as Arpad, and Louis Zorich as Mr. Maraczek. A revival cast recording was released by Varese Sarabande.

The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra will begin its summer series at Riverbend Music Center's Corbett Pavilion tonight, June 6 at 8 p.m. with a special 'Broadway Sing-Along' featuring classic Broadway hits and inviting the audience to sing along.

Tonight, June 6th, designer and director Tony Walton will receive The Goodspeed Award for Outstanding Contribution to Musical Theatre at Goodspeed Musicals' Gala event RAZZLE DAZZLE. Julie Andrews will present Walton with the award at the event.

Producers Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel, and Jam Theatricals have announced that Fiddler on the Roof will go on sale to the general public on Saturday, June 6th at 10:00 a.m. EST.  Tickets will be available to purchase on-line at Telecharge.com or by phone at 212-239-6200. 

The beloved Broadway tradition continued yesterday as Sardi's (234 West 44th Street) added a caricature of four-time Tony Award nominee Judy Kuhn to its walls, with an unveiling celebration hosted by Tony Award-winner and Fun Home co-star, Michael Cerveris. BroadwayWorld was there for the special day and you can check out photos below! 

Today we are talking to a world renowned stage and screen star who has excelled in playing a dizzying array of recognizable characters onstage and onscreen over the course of his unique and diverse career - the affable Alfred Molina. Generations around the world have grown up with Fiddler on the Roof and such unforgettable, iconic songs as 'If I Were a Rich Man' and 'Sunrise, Sunset.' But getting to the 'final Fiddler' was a fascinating process, and last night at the 92Y's last presentation of the Lyrics & Lyricists season-lyricist Sheldon Harnick took the 92Y audience inside the creation and history of this cultural landmark. 92Y announces the lineup for Lyrics & Lyricists 2016, the 46th season of the country's preeminent American Songbook series.

Sheldon Harnick the Tony Award-winning lyricist of Fiddler on the Roof will be Hosting the 92Y's presentation of To Life! Celebrating 50 Years of Fiddler on the Roof. The production will run from May 30 to June 1 at the 92Y.  Recently Mr. Harnick talked about, and performed (with the cast) a song cut before the show got to Broadway. The song titled 'Get Thee Out' will be included his 92Y presentation.

Awards shows are catnip for entertainment enthusiasts around the world not only because they are a celebration of the best of the breed in whatever medium or genre the presentation recognizes but also because a live telecast with so many stars and so many categories allows for ample room for entertainment - and error. In Tony Awards history, there have been a few unmistakably unmissable moments that live on thanks to the magic of YouTube for a variety of reasons - thrilling battles to the finish in tight categories, chilling reactions from non-winners when the top prize is announced, and, of course, some very unusual albeit unforgettable ties and inconsistent category tweaks. Nevertheless, the Tony Awards is always the biggest night of the year for Broadway babies and this year should prove to be no exception with the hot competition and spectacular stars scheduled to appear on June 7 at Radio City Music Hall and presented to the world, once again, via CBS at 8 PM.

Producers Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel, and Jam Theatricals just announced that Fiddler on the Roof will play The Broadway Theatre (1681 Broadway) and will begin performances on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 with an opening night scheduled for Thursday,December 17, 2015.  Rehearsals are set to begin Monday, September 28, 2015.  Five-time Tony Award-nominee and Drama Desk & Outer Critics Circle Award winner Danny Burstein (Cabaret, Golden Boy, Follies, South Pacific) will step into the iconic role of Tevye. Burstein will appear under the direction of Tony Award-nominated director Bartlett Sher, who was most recently nominated for a Tony Award for the current Broadway revival, The King and I.  Sher has directed Burstein on Broadway in the revivals ofGolden Boy and South Pacific. Further casting and ticket on-sale date will be announced soon. 

Symphony Space's 2015 gala celebrated Broadway impresario Harold Prince with a star-studded musical tribute to the legendary 21 time Tony Award-winning producer/director on May 18, at Capitale. Danny Burstein hosted the evening, which featured performances by Kate Baldwin, Sierra Boggess, Santino Fontana, Jeremy Jordan, Ramin Karimloo, Norm Lewis,Rebecca Luker, Laura Osnes, and Chita Rivera.
