A Theatre Lover's Guide to DC/Capital Area Theatres - November Offerings

The fall temperatures may be getting colder, but the DC area theatre scene is heating up with many musicals, including a new "intimate" production of a 1927 American classic, a Tony-Award Winning family saga, and so many choices - well - take a look for yourself at what this diverse theatre community has to offer in November. This is a great time to celebrate the upcoming holidays with your family, so bring the kids, grandparents, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles and cousins to see that Orphan girl and her dog, a Disney heroine, and enjoy an early Christmas, and many more shows to bring in the cheer and joy of the holiday season. L.A. Theatre Works Announces Special Broadcast of THE RIVALRY

Join L.A. Theatre Works for a pre-election day broadcast of a rare and timely revival of 'The Rivalry' by Norman Corwin starring David Strathairn and Paul Giamatti. The LATW-recorded production, which includes an interview with the two stars, is set to air on public radio stations around the country, as well as on XM Satellite radio, throughout the weekend as follows.

Bichir and Cochran to Star in Geffen's 'By the Waters of Babylon' by Schenkkan

The Los Angeles premiere of Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Schenkkan's By the Waters of Babylon brings two award-winning, long-time theater actors to the Geffen stage for the first time: Demián Bichir and Shannon Cochran. Bichir, who is currently starring as Mary Louise-Parker's love interest on Showtime's Weeds, will play the role of Arturo, a Cuban immigrant who is hired to (coincidentally) weed the garden of unconventional Austin widow Catherine. Cochran, who will star as Catherine, is straight from Chicago where she starred in sold out performances of The Lion in Winter at the Writers Theatre.

Jefferson Award Nominees Announced

Today, the Jefferson Awards announced the 150 nominations in 35 categories for Chicago Equity theatrical productions which opened between August 1, 2007 and July 31, 2008. Beginning with this season, the Jeff Awards is acknowledging the work of Large and Midsize theatres in separate categories for productions and technical elements.

Play-Based 'Bug' Opens Nationwide in Theaters Today

Bug, the new William Friedkin (The French Connection, The Excorcist) directed thriller starring Ashley Judd (Double Jeopardy, Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood), Michael Shannon (8 Mile) and Harry Connick, Jr. (Broadway's The Pajama Game), opens in theaters nationwide today, May 25.
