Theater Resources Unlimited Announces Writer-Director Communications Lab

Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) announces Writer-Director Communications Lab on Saturday, August 11, 2018 from 10am-6pm at Studios 353, 353 W. 48th Street, Studio B (basement). Registration is $75 for TRU members ($85 for non-members), $30 for an additional collaborator (writer), and registration for TRU Member observers is $30 ($40 for non-members). Writers must be accepted before purchasing a spot.

Gamut Theatre Education Center to Hold Ribbon Cutting And Open House

Gamut Theatre Group is excited to announce the Grand Opening of the recently renovated, 10,000 square foot Gamut Theatre Education Center. The center features the Alexander Grass Second Stage, two renovated classrooms, and technical teaching shops for students to learn about costume construction, scenery design, sound and lighting, and more.  Its new four-stop elevator and outdoor access will make this space fully accessible and ADA-compliant. The new stage will be the permanent home for the Popcorn Hat Players Children's Theatre, as well as the Stage Door Series Ensemble and Gamut Theatre Academy. One of the unique features of the center is a wall-to-wall mural painted by local artist Jacintha Clark.

The Brick Presents HAMLET: WHAT DREAMS MAY COME

Created in collaboration between Drama Desk award-winning playwright Adam Mathias and Bakerloo Theatre Project Artistic Director William Addis, this stunning, fast-paced, four person adaptation uses Shakespeare's text in a post-modern exploration of the English language's most enigmatic anti-hero. In the instant following his death, Hamlet awakens in a surreal dreamscape and must replay the pivotal moments of his tragedy with the help of his mother, his friend, and his love.

Free, Public Performances Of MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING Set To Launch Rude Grooms' Commons Series

Queens-based Rude Grooms announced today initial details for the company's inaugural public production: William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, led by actor-manager Laura Piccoli (Unhealthy at Battalion Theatre Co) and produced in partnership with Long Island City Artists at the Plaxall Gallery and the Astoria Park Alliance. The production will play shows in Queens at the Plaxall Gallery, Astoria Park, Queensbridge Park, and Rainey Park as well as in Manhattan at the West End Theatre. Cast And Creative Team Announced For The World Premiere Of THE LOVELY BONES at Royal & Derngate

The full cast and creative team have been confirmed for the world premiere of The Lovely Bones, one of the best-selling novels of the 21st century. Adapted for the stage by Bryony Lavery from Alice Sebold's story and directed by Melly Still, it will open at Royal & Derngate, Northampton on 1 September 2018 before transferring to partner theatres Everyman Liverpool, Northern Stage, Newcastle and Birmingham Repertory Theatre. The show will also tour to The New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich.

Commonwealth Shakespeare Company Presents Free Shakespeare On The Common

Commonwealth Shakespeare Company, Founding Artistic Director Steven Maler, presents its 23rd season of "Free Shakespeare on the Common:" William Shakespeare's drama Richard III, directed by Steven Maler and starring Faran Tahir. Performances are free of charge, and will take place on the Boston Common, near the Parkman Bandstand.

Main Street Theater Announces Changes In Season Line-up

Main Street Theater is announcing a change in the line-up of its 43rd MainStage season, beginning September 2018.  The previously announced Trojan War Project, a three-play collaboration with Prague Shakespeare company, will be postponed to a later season.  Conor McPherson's The Weir will now open March 16, 2019, and the season will close with a title TBA, pending availability of rights.  "After much reflection, we are postponing the Trojan War Project until sometime in the future," shared Rebecca Greene Udden, Executive Artistic Director and Founder of Main Street Theater.  "The production represented an enormous financial undertaking, and as we, like so many other arts organizations struggling to recover from this Harvey-cursed year, have to focus on financial sustainability."  Additionally, The Book of Will is now set to open a bit later, September 22, 2018.  MST will still bring in Canada's La Fille du Laitier and their production of Macbeth Muet.

A COUCH & A POTATO Comes to Alexander Upstairs

Jo, a recent divorcee, arrives for her first session with Carl Zimmerman, a Cape Town psychologist. Carl's consulting room is on the corner of Loop and Strand and apart from the expected couch contains a Steinway baby-grand. (Carl is also a wannabe songwriter and often surprises his clients by using music therapy to work through their divorce issues.) In one 70mn musical rollercoaster-ride they laugh, cry, share and lay bare their broken hearts through song and chat and by the end of the session we could almost believe that these two total strangers are ready to fall in love again.

Casting Announced For NATIVE GARDENS By Karen Zacarías

Today, Intiman Theatre announced the casting for its third mainstage production of its 2018 WILD, WICKED, WOKE Season: NATIVE GARDENS by Karen Zacarias, one of the most produced Latina playwrights in the nation. Intiman's production of NATIVE GARDENS will be directed by Seattle-based director Arlene Martinez-Vazquez and will play at The Jones Playhouse from September 6-30, 2018.
