BWW Review: CATS, A Litter Ground of Spectacle, Mystery, Fun and Nostalgia

CATS is not your ordinary musical. In fact, it's a sung-through piece of dance theater, which was conceived for the West End stage at a time when Andrew Lloyd Webber had never yet had a huge hit, and the emerging art form was heavily identified with the American Theatre.

Children of powerful or accomplished parents have a hard enough time as it is stepping into the massive shoes laid out before them or being able to be seen for who they are unobscured by the huge, formidable shadow cast by someone who has been called a 'great man', but what of a child who never got the chance in the first place? These are some of the questions that arose from Hamnet, written and directed by Ben Kidd and Bush Moukarzel of Ireland's Dead Centre as part of BAM's Next Wave 2019.

The Warner Theatre will Welcome MOMIX to The Stage for the MOMIX 40th ANNIVERSARY SEASON

The Warner Theatre will welcome MOMIX to the Main Stage on January 18 & 19, 2020 when they present the MOMIX 40th ANNIVERSARY SEASON, sponsored by Thomaston Savings Bank. The internationally recognized company of dancer-illusionists based in Washington, CT sprang from the inventive universe of Moses Pendleton, of Pilobolus fame, whose creations conjure up a world of surrealistic images using props, lights, shadow, humor and the human body in ever-startling ways.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL Will Come to OCP

The Omaha Community Playhouse (OCP) production of A Christmas Carol will open Friday, Nov. 15, 2019. The show will run in the Hawks Mainstage Theatre at OCP from Nov. 15 through Dec. 23. Performances will be held Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., Sundays at 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., Wednesdays beginning in December at 7 p.m. and Monday, Dec. 23 at 7:30 p.m. There will be no performance on Thurs., Nov. 28 due to Thanksgiving.

Long Wharf Theatre Announces Casting for PRIDE AND PREJUDICE

Long Wharf Theatre (Jacob G. Padrón, Artistic Director; Kit Ingui, Managing Director) announced dates, complete casting and creative team for Pride and Prejudice, written by Kate Hamill, adapted from the classic Jane Austen novel, and directed by Jess McLeod. Performances begin on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 for a limited run through December 22, 2019.

The New Orleans Ballet Association Presents Pilobolus In SHADOWLAND

 The New Orleans Ballet Association (NOBA) presents the return of the wildly creative and physically daring Pilobolus (pih LAH boh lus) in the Louisiana premiere of SHADOWLAND-The New Adventure on Friday, Nov. 22 at 8 p.m. at the Mahalia Jackson Theater.

Sundance Institute Theatre Program: An All-Women Cohort To Convene At MASS MoCA Lab

Sundance Institute's Theatre Program will support three ambitious new works for the stage, and their four women creators, at this year's two-week Theatre Lab at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA). The Lab, which runs from November 10 to November 24th, will feature the concentrated and abundant time and resources, including individual casting from a dedicated acting company and daily rehearsals, that has long been a signature of Sundance's Labs.

The Educational Theatre Foundation (ETF) will honor Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures with the ETF Entertainment Industry Award, at Thespians Go Hollywood, Monday, November 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the Avalon Hollywood. The annual benefit supports theatre education programs for schools in need by bringing together film, theatre, and television professionals with current high school students in a cabaret show that is entertaining, inspiring and not-to-be-missed.

Genius and jealousy collide in Folger Theatre's production of Peter Shaffer's Amadeus. Richard Clifford (Mary Stuart and The School for Scandal at Folger Theatre), directs the Tony Award-winning “Best Play” set against the backdrop of the opulent salons and opera houses of 18th-century Vienna, examining the rivalry between court composer Antonio Salieri and the boorish but brilliant Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The production features Helen Hayes Award-winner Ian Merrill Peakes (Folger Theatre's Macbeth and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead) as the tortured composer Salieri, who finds himself living in the shadow of his musical rival Mozart (Samuel Adams).

Boston Symphony Releases New CD Of Recent Commissions On Friday

Fresh from its two Grammy Award wins last February, the Boston Symphony Orchestra has added another CD to its extensive discography: recent Boston Symphony Orchestra commissions of works by American composers Timo Andres, Eric Nathan, Sean Shepherd, and George Tsontakis. BSO Music Director Andris Nelsons leads the Boston Symphony Orchestra in recordings made live at Symphony Hall from February 2016 through February 2018.
