BWW Reviews: Squabbalogic's MAN OF LA MANCHA Is A Fantastic Interpretation Of This Musical Play Within A Play.

Dale Wasserman's MAN OF LA MANCHA comes to life in Squabbalogic's ingenious performance that draws the audience into Miguel de Cervantes' fabulous imagination as he and fellow inmates, awaiting their fate during the Spanish Inquisition, play out the story of Don Quixote de La Mancha using only the contents of the prison cell and Cervantes' box of possessions.

CHIAROSCURO AND CHUMS Play the Ware Center Tonight

The Ware Center presents a premiere performance that brings music, humor, dance, and visual art together for one beautiful masterpiece titled, Chiaroscuro and Chums, tonight, March 11 at 7:30 pm. Chiaroscuro is certainly not an everyday word but a great descriptor of what we can look forward to on stage. An Italian word for light-dark, Chiaroscuro is the use of strong contrasts between light and dark, usually bold contrasts affecting a whole composition. Friends, “Chums” will join together to bring us an never-before-seen performance entertaining our eyes and ears, with pieces that explore opposites taking us from serious to humorous, and beyond.

BWW Reviews: POP UP MUSICAL at the Plymouth Playhouse is a Delightfully Irreverent Ode to the Love of Musical Theater

Musical theater is just the best thing, isn't it? If you agree, head west to the Plymouth Playhouse for the latest incarnation of the delightfully irreverent tribute to the love of all things musical theater, aka POP UP MUSICAL. Four friends, who just happen to be super talented local music-theater artists, created this show for the Fringe Festival a few years ago. It was so successful that they've expanded it and continue to bring it to various venues in the area (including the Jerome Hill Theater, where I saw it in 2013). While belting out showtunes, the cast also shares fun bits of trivia in the VH1 Pop Up Video style, using signs and video projections. It's truly a must see for anyone for whom the great American musical theater cannon holds a special place in their heart (and their iTunes).
