What Not to Miss on Connecticut Stages this Fall

Full casting is announced today for the UK premiere of the hit Off Broadway musical ADDING MACHINE: A MUSICAL, composed by Joshua Schmidt, with libretto by Jason Loewith and Joshua Schmidt, and based on the classic play by Elmer Rice. Josh Seymour directs Joseph Alessi (Mr Zero), Kate Milner-Evans (Mrs Zero), Joanna Kirkland (Daisy Dorothea Devore) and Edd Campbell Bird (Shrdlu), with James Dinsmore (Mr One and as cast), Helen Walsh (Mrs One and as cast), George Rae (Mr Two and as cast), and Sue Appleby (Mrs Two and as cast). The production opens at the Finborough Theatre on Wednesday 28 September 2016 (Press Nights: Friday 30 September and Saturday 1 October 2016 at 7.30pm).

IRT Theater presents Punchline Productions' THE KOAN OF SEYMOUR by J.B. Heaps, directed by Justin Bennett, running September 2-18, 2016.

'On the twenty-third day of the month of September in an early year of a decade not too long before our own, the human race suddenly encountered a deadly threat to its very existence. And this terrifying enemy surfaced, as such enemies often do, in the seemingly most innocent and unlikely of places.' And so goes the prologue to the popular small cast musical LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS. Based on the 1960 movie directed by Roger Corman, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS by writer Howard Ashman and composer Alan Menken, is the marriage of a 60's love story and the apocalyptic sci-fi films of the era set to music. The result is a crowd pleasing intimate campy black musical comedy. Its success led to the musical being produced as a movie in 1986 with Rick Moranis, Vincent Gardenia, Ellen Greene and Steve Martin in the lead roles.

United Solo Festival will present writer/performer Phil Johnson in his latest solo work, A Jewish Joke - a drama about comedy as relevant today is it was during the McCarthy era - in a single performance on Saturday, September 17th at 4pm at The Studio Theatre @ Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street - just east of Broadway.)

La Jolla Playhouse announces the cast and creative team for its world-premiere production of Miss You Like Hell, book and lyrics by Pulitzer Prize winner Quiara Alegria Hudes (In the Heights, Water by the Spoonful), music and lyrics by acclaimed singer/songwriter Erin McKeown, directed by Lear deBessonet (Public Theatre's The Odyssey) and choreographed by Danny Mefford (Broadway's Fun Home). Commissioned by the Playhouse and developed during the 2016 DNA New Work Series, the production has been extended by one week, now running October 25 - December 4 in the Mandell Weiss Theatre. It is rare that you might see a Jewish florist, a sadistic dentist and a giant singing, flesh-eating plant on the same stage, but in Little Shop of Horrors, this is all part of the show.

Dare to Defy Productions will present Little Shop of Horrors on Friday September 2 at 8 p.m. and Saturday September 3 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the historic Victoria Theatre.

It would be impossible to name a performer who more effectively blurred the lines between his real life and his life on stage than Seymour Fitzgerald Payne. While his fans loved adorable characters like The Purple Orange and The Bellowing Mime, Seymour was also involved in a series of public confrontations that left his public wondering if these incidents were rehearsed routines or spontaneous tantrums. But just as his career was beginning to soar, his life reportedly ended. Was his mysterious demise an unavoidable and calamitous tragedy? Or the latest, and most elaborate, of Seymour's hoaxes?

The Old Globe presents the West Coast premiere of OCTOBER SKY, which will blast off the Globe's 2016-2017 Season with a tale of boys, rockets, and big dreams. OCTOBER SKY will run September 10 - October 23, 2016 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center.
