Valery Gergiev and the Illustrious Mariinsky Orchestra Return to The Soraya for a Rare All-Stravinsky Program

Continuing its mission to bring the best of the world's symphonic orchestras to Los Angeles, the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts will present the Mariinsky Orchestra under the baton of Grammy Award-winning Music Director Valery Gergiev on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at 8pm. Hailed as "Russia's musical crown Jewel" by The New York Times, the Orchestra will perform a complete Stravinsky program that includes the composer's most iconic works, including his scintillating prodigy piece, Fireworks, his strikingly original Symphony in C, and the rapturous ballet score that launched the young composer to international fame, The Firebird Suite. Young violinist Kristof Barati will join the orchestra for Violin Concerto in D Major.

Performer John Fleck Reinvents Gothic Horror Genre At Odyssey Theatre

Blacktop Highway: a gothic horror screenplay'd on one man's body - Renowned performer John Fleck reinvents the gothic horror genre in this horrifyingly hysterical tale of taxidermy, transformation and caged creatures. Fleck continues to break new ground playing all the parts (both human and animal) in this brilliantly staged screenplay. Weaving video with theatrical movement and his remarkable vocal gymnastics, Fleck leads the audience into a darkly hilarious world of one particularly unusual family that oddly reflects an American landscape no longer able to distinguish what is "real" from a "simulation" of reality.

Adam Gwon's ORDINARY DAYS Begins Performances Tonight

Performances begin today for Keen Company's fourth musical, the first NY revival of Adam Gwon's acclaimed Ordinary Days, directed by Keen Artistic Director Jonathan Silverstein. Whitney Bashor (The Bridges of Madison County), Marc delaCruz (If/Then), Sarah Lynn Marion (2013 Jimmy awards winner), and Kyle Sherman (Pete the Cat) star.

West Coast Premiere of Adam Bock's Black Comedy A Life to Open at The Armory, Following Successful Off-Broadway Run

Adam Bock's A Life, commissioned by Portland Center Stage at The Armory, will receive its West Coast debut at The Armory following the success of the play's world premiere in New York. A Life begins preview performances on September 29, opens on October 5, and runs through November 11 in the Ellyn Bye Studio. Associate Artistic Director Rose Riordan, who has frequently partnered with Bock, will direct. Nat DeWolf (Broadway: Take Me Out) will make his company debut as the astrology-loving and hopelessly single Nate Martin. DeWolf is joined by Cycerli Ash, also making her debut at The Armory, as well as returning artists Dana Green (Major Barbara and many others) and Gary Norman (Our Town).

Cast members from the 2015 Broadway revival lead the Paper Mill Playhouse company, including Adrianna Hicks (Aladdin, Sister Act - Germany) as Celie, Carla R. John Doyle Will Direct Musical About Life of Artist Jean-Michel Basquiat

Alan D. Marks and Barbara Marks have announced the development of the Broadway bound original musical inspired by the life and art of Jean-Michel Basquiat. Jon Batiste ("The Late Show with Stephen Colbert") has written the music & lyrics and Tony Award Winner John Doyle will direct. The development team is working closely with the Basquiat Estate and have secured the rights to Jean-Michel's art work and personal archives.
