BWW Review: Darkly Funny DRY POWDER at the Rep Lacks Much Else

There's a well-known TV and Film writer who has a reputation for those quick witted, fast paced banter conversations (sometimes in the halls of the White House and sometimes while creating a social media platform. You know who I mean). And it's fun to listen to these people be more eloquent and quick than any of us could ever be in real life without a script. Now take those quick banter scenes, expand them to the length of an entire play, and pack them full to the brim with enough numbers and financial lingo that anyone outside Goldman Sachs would feel lost and what you have is Sarah Burgess' play "Dry Powder" currently playing at the Seattle Rep.

Tonye Patano to Star in Dominique Morisseau's SKELETON CREW at The Old Globe; Cast Announced!

The Old Globe today announced the complete cast and creative team of Skeleton Crew by Dominique Morisseau. The Globe is the first regional theatre in the country to mount the play, which was presented here as a reading in the 2014 Powers New Voices Festival before an acclaimed Off Broadway run. San Diego director Delicia Turner Sonnenberg makes her Globe debut to helm the award-winning drama, which is presented in association with San Diego's MOXIE Theatre, where Turner Sonnenberg is Founding Artistic Director.

COME FROM AWAY Company Will Sign Cast Recordings and Perform at Barnes & Noble on April 7

JUNKYARD DOG PRODUCTIONS and THE MUSICAL COMPANY will celebrate the release of the original Broadway cast recording of COME FROM AWAY with a special in-store performance and CD signing at Barnes & Noble (150 East 86th St at Lexington Avenue) on Friday, April 7, 2017 at 4.30 PM. Creators Irene Sankoff and David Hein will be joined by the COME FROM AWAY cast: Petrina Bromley, Geno Carr, Jenn Colella, Joel Hatch, Rodney Hicks, Kendra Kassebaum, Tony Award nominee Chad Kimball, Lee MacDougall, Caesar Samayoa, Q. Smith, Astrid Van Wieren and Sharon Wheatley, along with musical arranger and supervisor Ian Eisendrath. Fans who purchase the CD at the store will be offered priority seating.

Phylicia Rashad to Helm Jen Silverman's THE ROOMMATE at Steppenwolf

Steppenwolf Theatre Company announced today acclaimed director, actor, singer and 2017 Steppenwolf Women in the Arts honoree Phylicia Rashad will direct Steppenwolf's Chicago premiere production of The Roommate, a comedy by Jen Silverman.

B Street Theatre to Host A Digital Privacy Event

Join in for a special event addressing the modern issues surrounding digital privacy. B Street Theatre partners with the The Goethe-Institut in Washington D.C. to present short plays written by playwrights across the country and the globe as they explore the challenges of the digital age. The evening will feature an hour long performance and talk-back followed by a social hour with cocktails and music. This event is associated with The Plurality of Privacy Project in Five-Minute plays (P3M5).

This bitter farce is set in 1910 France. There we meet self-absorbed and blustery General Leon Saint-Pe and his infatuation with Ghislaine, a woman with whom he danced at a garrison ball some 17 years earlier.  A married man trapped in a loveless marriage to his hypochondriac wife, the General pines for true love, his lost youth, and the courage to move forward.  

Goodman Theatre Sets Cast for World Premiere of OBJECTS IN THE MIRROR By Charles Smith

The cast and creative team is complete for Objects in the Mirror, a Goodman Theatre-commissioned world premiere by Charles Smith. Directed by Resident Director Chuck Smith, Objects in the Mirror is inspired by the playwright's real-life friendship with a Liberian refugee-turned-actor, Shedrick Yarkpai-portrayed by Daniel Kyri, in his Goodman debut. The production was developed through the 2015 New Stages festival and features a 5-member cast who brings to life the gripping account of one Liberian refugee's attempts to find peace by exposing a potentially dangerous lifelong secret. Objects in the Mirror appears April 29 through June 4 (opening night is May 8) in the Albert Theatre. MTI Acquires Licensing Rights for COME FROM AWAY

Junkyard Dog Productions (Randy Adams, Marleen and Kenny Alhadeff and Sue Frost) announced that theatrical licensor Music Theatre International (MTI) has secured the worldwide licensing rights to Irene Sankoff & David Hein's COME FROM AWAY.

August Wilson's TWO TRAINS RUNNING Set for Seattle Rep's 2017-18 Season

Seattle Repertory Theatre is bringing back the work of Seattle legend August Wilson, a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner and playwright. Two Trains Running will be performed in Seattle Rep's Bagley Wright Theatre as part of its 2017/2018 season. The full 2017/2018 season announcement will be made later this spring.

On Sunday, March 5, 2017 at 7:30pm, Works & Process at the Guggenheim presents a discussion with Canadian writing duo Irene Sankoff and David Hein, Tony-nominated choreographer Kelly Devine, and Tony-nominated director Christopher Ashley on the creative process behind the new musical Come From Away, which will open on Broadway on March 12.
